At least its warming up. Fishing time will be coming very soon. Hopefully I can get up to the mountains by mid april. Chris we should fish sometime

Play around with the adjustment on it. I cant remember exactly what its called but it will slow down the spool during casting to help prevent it, to much will decrease casting distance and to little will birds nest and piss you off, your looking for a happy medium. Also NEVER let anyone use your bait caster, let somebody borrow mine and got it back with an eagles nest, had to cut every bit of new line off the damn thing.
 
At least none of you guys are catching the one eye'd trouser trout :-)

So what are you guys go to baits? I always liked a 6" bubble gum pink Zoom worm on an inline shank 2/0 hook with no weight. I've had great luck in just about all water colors.

To stop this, everytime you start fishin/castin a baitcaster, or you change baits ( weights ) first tighten the friction knob some, hold the rod straight out and release/drop the bait, loosening the friction if needed, until it drops to the ground/deck. If it trys to backlash when the lure hits the ground, quickly stop w your thumb and tighten the friction slightly/repeat until the bait will drop when the spool is released, but stop when the bait hits/stops falling, w little or no backlash, w/o using your thumb. Cast a few times and adjust some more if you need to or when you get used to casting that particular bait, for more distance w your casts.

yeah i am getting a canoe for pond and cove fishing so i wonted to get a bait caster so i could hit more water and thick cover and all,well with a spinning reel im a beast i could hit the dick off a mosquito. But with the bait caster i look like a little kid and it dosent even go where i wont but im practicing and looked up a bunch of stuff on how to and ima try yalls advise to tomorrow wile im casting in the yard for the illusive grass fish.
 
If I was fishin out of a canoe, lobbing lures at trees/cover, I would use a spinnin reel, but that's just me. I do most of my fishin w spinning reels.
 
So which do yall prefer spinning or baitcasters? I prefer spinning just cause they are easier to use but break out the baitcaster every once in a while.
 
I don't like casting baitcasters while sittin low in a small jonboat or canoe unless I'm flippin, but I do like to fish w them standing on the bank/shore or on a boat where I can cast da chit out of it w/o fear of backlashing unless I screw up.( Not trying to steal the thread )

Both have their place. I fish with my ultra lite the majority of the time but when im going after something bigger and I have the room i use my baitcaster. I rarely gt a birds nest with my baitcaster but im use to using it.
 
I use a baitcaster for everything, unless I'm not catching anything and decide to use my little tiny panfish lures. They're so light it's almost impossible to cast them with the baitcaster.
