That is insane! I am not sure I would be in the right mindset to catch a black widow after it bit my duaghter. Cudo's to him. The hospital would be verifying the specie of spider from the bottom of my shoe. I am affraid to ask but how did everything work out?

Oh, it's a very long and disturbing story! Grace Hospital, here in Morganton, is not the place to take your neighbors coon dog! LOL She's fine, now!

I went to let the trailer jack down two days ago and felt something run across my bare arm..it was a black widow about that size. I put it in a jar for a day or so, then set it free in the woods. I was pretty shocked at how creepy it made me feel, I don't much care for spiders or snakes.

"The hospital would be verifying the species of spider from the bottom of my shoe".

I took it to the hospital the day after she was bitten (again, long and disturbing). They disputed the fact that it was a female! You can clearly see it is a female! I think they flushed it.

I've been bit by a brown recluse twice, about 10 yrs apart each time. First time was really bad, second time I remembered to squeeze the crap out of the bite area to get blood to flush the venom out. It worked pretty good, wasn't a 10th as bad as the first time.

You let it go? I woulda made sure that thing was a splat on the ground so I wouldnt have to worry about it makin younguns! I hate spiders. Thanks for posting the link to all the indiginous spiders of NC. Now i am completely freaked out. I didnt even know we have trap door spiders..

Also, anyone ever hear the urban legend that Grandaddy longlegs are the most poisonous "spider" but cannot bite to inject venom? Maybe im just gullable.

I was bit by a spider last week driving the jeep in flipflops. The posion only spread about 1/2inch before it stopped. Man did it itch like hell!!! Stayed welped up for two days, then Bright Red for a week. old lady in the office told me to rub ammonia on it and that night it was half its shade of red.

just a little tid bit

Wow, glad to here she's ok. I had one of those, in my shed last Saturday, my hand passed within 2'' of it. Sprayed it with carb-n-choke cleaner, 7 times in about 3mins. It finally died. It's eggsack was 3/4'', I took it out to the lot, & burned it with a plumber's torch.

Spiders only bite humans when they are afraid people!

Why kill an innocent creature? Heck, I was bitten by a wolf spider several years back and I brought it in the house and kept it as a pet until it died. Fed it flies and moths from around the house and yard... he was cool. About 2 or 3 inches in diameter. I have a pic somewhere of him/her...

My husband and I are in the process of laying a stone walk way and I found a black widow about a week ago. I picked up a piece of mulch and cut her in 1/2. Then I moved the mulch around a little and found the egg sack. Took that to the road and squished it. Then, two days later, my husband found another one. He "relocated" her and her 2 egg sacks to the wooded area behind the house. He is a lost cause. That makes #4 since we bought this house about 12 years ago. So far we have seen them before they have seen us! Lets hope it stays that way.

Glad to hear your daughter is all right now Leslie!

I've had black widows in the shop since we built the house six years ago, must have built it on top of the ancestral home where they return each season. :) You have to check everything you pick up that might have one on the back side...especially pasteboard boxes and scrap wood. I've just learned to deal with it and look first. Best purpose they serve, though, is to keep the wife out of MY shop. I just be sure and remind her about the black widows every now and again.

i hate bugs i set off spider bombs in my shop every summer i hate em so much i cut thr lead out of 12 ga shells and shoot at them with the powder blast (mental thing makes me feel better ) the other night i sprayed poision on the whole damn side of the house cause one was on the door.(wife wouldnt let me shoot the door)

I don't usually kill spiders. I put them back outside.
But....this innocent creature bit my precious creature, twice! Yes, I'll kill every one of them I see!
If she bit your daughter... then her innocence was lost. Even though it was a self defense method for the spider, upon biting your daughter, it became survival of the fittest and mankind is stronger than a spider.
I am glad as well that your baby girl is doing better now. Black Widow bites are pretty nasty.

SQUISH... thats the only thing i wanna hear. That thing is frikkin huge! As for "Spiders only bite humans when they are afraid people! Why kill an innocent creature?" comment...

Im afraid of spiders.. .so we have something in common.. SQUISH.. i win.

EXACTLY! thank you for answering your question! If I happen to accidentally disturb a spider in a manner he/she doesn't like, I'm not going to wait around to accidentally do it again.

I've come across several Black Widows, some small some with an abdomen the size of my last joint on my pinky. all I have ot say is their guts are blue and it's cool :D
