How can you get a non-license ID card in NC quickly?
I have a niece that is supposed to be flying up here tomorrow, apparently the cops took her license last week b/c she had some unpaid fines or something (don't know the whole story, I'm sure she's guilty though ).
But she needs something to get on the plane... lives in Boone but flying out of CLT. If you go to the DMV do they give them on the spot?

Yeah you can get a general ID card at the DMV office.

Edit: I forgot they started mailing the cards so they may give her a temporary ID or something.

The Mexican consulate sets up shop quite often in Charlotte to give away Mexican IDs. That is probably quicker than the DMV!

All you get now is the paper temp card now which is one of the dumbest things the dmv has done.

but you get a card?
I don't care if it isn't permanent, she just needs something to use as ID to get on a plane.

Also, this is for an ID card, NOT a license. DMV website says it is the same procedure as a new license, which you (supposedly) get the same day.

I was told the same as whats said above. You now get a piece of paper the same day, and a card is then mailed to you.

You do not need photo identification to fly domestic.

FYI

You present photo identification in order to 'facilitate' the security screening... but it's not required.

It's a paper version of your id or license but it looks like it was printed by a Canon dot matrix printer from 1991

That's not very clear.

According to this
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/acceptable_documents.shtm

"adult passengers are required to show photo ID..."
However they also say there are "other processes"... who knows what that means... full cavity search

I'd hope if she showed up w/ the temp 90s dot-matrix paper card  along w/ a SS card, school ID (which has photo), and a debit card (which apparently has photo too) they wouldn't give her too hard of a time.

I've used a school id before. Like shawn said, there are ways around it. I believe it has something to do with how much of a dbag the ticket checker is feeling like at the moment.

does she have a passport?

negatory, that would have negated the problem.

Well, not being an idiot and getting her license yanked would have been the REAL solution, but hey what can you do...

lol..if we are loaning out Ids...send her mine and watch the comedy ensue as she tries to board a plane with an ID that says Richard Reid.

i hate getting on planes since the shoe bomber.

Interesting, I'm a Sheriff's Deputy in Boone, what is her name? Haha

Need a photo ID to check a bag and to get into security. Well, don't know if you *need* it but unless you want the special attention, procure a photo ID.

No School ID? Look up and see if a birth certificate will work or something like that.

So apparently they let her on the plane, but it was big ordeal and fiasco and took checking with a bunch of people, gave her a hard time, and she almost missed the plane.

It was equally fun this afternoon trying to get her onto the Army base.
We just told them she "didn't have a license and was waiting for a replacement ID.
They did the obligatory check on her (based on name, address etc) real quick- her face was priceless when the guy looked up and said, "Oh, now I see why you don't have a license, it was suspended."
She was like, "How do they know?" hahaha... silly girl, the gov't knows everything!
