ok guys i need help. i have an 1984 gmc jimmy that i ripped out all the stock exhuast and put in summit headers with duel magnaflow mufflers. getting ready to have duel 2 1/2 inch pipes all the way back. now nc inspection law stated that all of the stock components have to be on the truck even though its a 84 and doenst need emissions testing. will i be ok? where could i go, who do i need to talk to about this? i see alot of older vehicles with after market exhuast that pass inspection. that i know dont have all the stock parts.
thanks for your time.

If you have the $$$$ to spend why not put a pair of converters on it and call it a day, they wont be that restrictive if you are running 2.5" duals

:stupid: What he said...

"performance" cats aren't that restrictive, or that expensive. If you don't have them put a pair on and you will have no worries...

Sounds like you will be fine at most places, I used to know some guys around Mooresville from UTI who did inspections but I havent been in touch with them lately, but they used to pass me in similar circumstances.

no it does not have cats. i could get them if needed but i was more worried about the fact that i took out the air pump and all those stupid lines off the stock manifold are gone since i went with headers. i talked to a guy about finishing my exhaust from a muffler shop and thats when he told me since it didnt have that stuff some places might not pass. to bad i threw all that stuff out. should of thought of that before hand.

It will not pass without convertors, and if the vehicle was supposed to have an air pump from the factory, it best have one when I inspect it. I cant afford a ticket because you want to get by with your vehicle.

You may continue,
Just my .02

i guess i wont have you inspect it. since i no longer have the air pump or all the tubes that came out of the exhaust manifold. thanks for......

Probably not a good idea, but I know plenty of others in the area that would pass it and not even pop the hood. Check lights and enter the info, and let it go.

There are plenty of those trucks that came without the air pump, and a few that I have owned had the bracket for it, but no pump when new. As long as it looks like it wasn't there to begin with most will likely never question it. The big thing that will get you at most places will be the cats, but many never look under the truck (though by law it has to be lifted off the ground to inspect it) as long as it's not really loud...

i would say any off road or performance shop that does inspections would also be able to help you out, since they deal with more trucks like the ones we run.
