So I am trying to keep my YJ tagged, but I need to pass inspection...
I know most of what it needs to pass but I have a few questions.
How many mirrors do I need?
Do I need reverse lights?
Does the E brake need to work, or just be present?

I rarely drive it on the road, but I want to keep the option open for as long as I can.

From my limited experience , you been the rear view and driver's side view mirrors. Reverse lights are not required , but your inspector may not know that and want to see the. And the emergency brake has to be functional. It has to hold it while it's in gear and running.

In the 100+ inspections that I have paid for over the years I can't remember them ever checking the E brake or reverse lights. Last year I had my TJ inspected without doors or mirrors on it and passed with no issues. Not sure if it's because my cousin does my inspections or what.

For years I got away with my ebrake working crappy, then this year they made me have it functional. You don't need to have doors on, but you need mirrors.

You are not required to have a rear view mirror. You must have 2 mirrors one being the drivers side. This is what I could find when I was searching. Think about a box truck that has no back windshield.

Not in my case. I went through inspection a couple of years ago without the rear view mirror (the mount fell off) and the mechanic at the inspection station told me you have to have all of the mirrors that came with the vehicle. I applied some adhesive, stuck the mirror back on and had no issues.

It's a prick inspection mechanic then. Passenger cars require drivers outside and center mirrors, trucks require either driver/center or driver/passenger. As stated, box trucks do not need center mirror but must have both exterior aide mirrors.

As long as you have headlights, park lights, tail lights, brake lights, tires with over 3/32 tread depth around the circumference of the tire, and your brakes work you are generally good to go.

Some people will fail squeaky steering or suspension parts, some people actually check window tint, some people will sniff their own facts...mostly as long as it's not a death trap and your a decent person to the inspection station you'll be fine.

86 up I suppose? I've been battling this with my 94 Toyota. It will have to pass the safety inspection, lights, e-brake, horn, ect and will have to have all of the original emissions equipment installed.

For both my 94s ( ZJ and Dakota ) there is no emissions. Only checked lights horn and tires.

Nice. Mine just passed inspection, like I said, all the looked at was the safety stuff and that the factory emissions items were still there, no test. Mine.
