NC4x4 CrossFit Club

A crossfitter, a democrat and transgender walked into a bar.
Everyone knew.
Let me guess, they were all driving a Prius with a 13.1 or 26.2 sticker...

@zubz, We're looking at building some mud run obstacles in the back lot and start a training program of sorts the first of the year. PM me some of your favorite/hated obstacles that you train on.

Make time for your heart or it will make time for you.

Guy at work brought a pair of 100ib dumbells to work today, nobody could curl it I did get it about 3 inches up but that's was more than the rest.

One of my favorite sayings is you don't have anything if you don't have your health.

Really wish I could make myself make time for stuff like this.

Elon track and field/baseball athlete's time from this last posted workout...14:10
That's pretty common of most college athletes we get through here. They get beat by the fat old guy (me)...Prove me wrong Stretch, post up!

It's no excuse. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a high level athletic background and current resources of an in house health and wellness coordinator who used to train college and pro athletes/teams. And yeah I've heard that spiel before from box owners. The only issue I have with CrossFit is the people who say do this for X time and its a good workout and this is how you should train. No, False. Its just teaching someone to go through the motions as fast as possible. The same as learning how to take tests. Box owners and coaches are slighting themselves and their customers with this mentality, which apparently CrossFit is trying to change with their new CF1 trainees. It is better for someone to train with proper form and maybe take a little more time or a little less weight to get the most out of the workout. Besides that, its nothing more than a brand. Someone built it, you invested in it and are selling it. Nothing wrong there, but just encourage them to do the workouts properly instead of just to get them done as fast as possible.

12:36 and yeah I probably had some shitty lunges those last two sets.

Like.

There is a time and place for rushed reps and borderline form for strength maximization but it isnt a way of life.

equate it to wheeling. There is a time for throttle down, but if that is your 1 trick then...
But from what I understand not all CF trainers are created equal.

Show me sub 12min on this workout and tell me where your heart's at.

Again, like college athletes, we see alot of runners who are pleasantly (if you can call it that?) surprised at how far they are pushed with basic CrossFit workouts. We did a workout last week, another 5 round of something but with an 800 meter run between rounds. I was looking forward to the run as a rest for each round, and I hate running.

Yea, I am actually one of the slowest lifters in the gym. I move the weight slowly for more time under tension. A lot of guys move it really fast so they can do more weight. I think that is bad for the joints and does not produce as a good of results. I am actually amazed at how many people use horrible form and 'cheat' so they can use a heavier weight. It is ridiculous sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, only about 25% of the people in our gym are doing prescribed weights on most of our workouts. While most of them want to hit that RX button we won't let them simply because there strength/technique isn't there to support it and not get hurt.

It varies from gym to gym. If you walk in a CF gym and they don't have at least a month long introductory course then I'd tell you to walk back out. Our competition in town does 3 days of intro and throws you in to the normal class. Not good.

Don't take my 'excuses' jab personally. I just hear a shit ton of them on a daily basis...

My comment was meant to motivate those posting about drinking beer and sitting on the couch. I am not a CrossFit hater. I know enough about 'working out' and have done enough different types of workouts to know that the CrossFit workouts are difficult without ever having done one. I wish this had been posted in mid-late July before I injured my neck. I was in prime shape at the time and would love to have seen my time on this challenge. I am actually not much of a runner anymore due to a damaged knee. I only run about once every few weeks. That is all my knee can handle. I mostly use the bicycle, elliptical, and summit climber for cardio now a days.

Just do air squats instead of burpees?

Everybody has 15 minutes. Put yourself a 15 minute time cap on it. Do what you can in 15 and let us know your total reps.

I was winded just reading all this crap and I barely did THAT in under 15 minutes. This stuff sounds like effort. Me and effort aren't the best of friends.

He doesn't know what wheelin' is anymore.

No offense taken on the excuses thing and its good your gym operates the way it does in educating new members. I admire anyone that gets in a gym and wants to stay healthy. I just hope they do it the right way and with the proper guidance. I know I was doing too much weight with shit form back in college because that's what the coaches wanted us to hit. When my knee doc went in to do my ACL/MCL/Meniscus fix a few years ago he found all kinds of cartilage damage as well so I don't wish that mess on anyone.

I drank them separately. I probably didn't wait long enough in between, though.

I'm down for trying this. I want to do some cross training this winter. Primary activity is mtn biking. I'm sure I will suck at this. A 45 lb plate is almost 1/3 of what I weigh....
