NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

So, that's a permitted hunt after season?
Its an extended archery season that is only in participating towns and cities.

Shot a buck the first week of rifle season here in VA. My daughter shot 1 the 3rd week? We lost a farm we had leased for the last 15 years. So all we had to hunt is our land. I’ve never shot a buck on it since I’ve owned it.
Have some cool videos of the buck she shot running a doe around me during the first week of black powder. We had pics of him during the summer on the minerals. I let him go hoping she would see him. She finally did. Also some bear videos from up on the mountain on a buddies land. Don’t know how to post videos?

When I still lived in NC I always hoped our neighborhood would adapt it. It was a massive gated neighborhood and overrun with does and fawns. They’d gotten so comfortable they wouldn’t move for your car or leave the yard if you walked outside. Forget growing anything. It was gone as soon as it sprouted. It truly needed some serious deer management. You could have stacked your freezer and still donated to feeding the hungry.

Well today put me over 50 miles walked in nc looking for grouse. Still havent found one besides the one I saw from my tree stand. That puts the dogs at 110-120 miles covered in nc. Probably did double that when we went up north.
Next weekend we got a tundra swan hunt, and then going to try and find some quail and woodcock at the coast.

Off shore fishing in the DR. Small 22' fiberglass jon boat and a 60hp outboard. Total caught was 7. I caught 1 with a rod the second two i caught by hand. Since no extra rods I just held the line by hand and brought in 2 that way. Most primitive fishing I've ever done for sure.

Got out to Wyoming on Friday afternoon and ol WheelNC62cj picked me up in Denver and we scooted up to his place. He and his wife moved out here a while back and we have been hunting together on and off over the years whenever I can draw a Wyoming tag. This year I was lucky enough to scoop a private land leftover elk cow/calf tag and he was nice enough to get us access to the ranch he works for.

Some shit never changes.

We got up early Saturday and hopped in the trucks and spent about 10 hours riding 40k+ acres glassing and looking for the elk. Saw some moose, some bull elk, a pile of mule deer, some grouse and other critters. Got some more permission from a neighbor too if we needed it.

We found a herd over on some other neighbors land midday and dropped a pin. Late in the day we went back to a glassing spot and they were moving closer to the ranch we could hunt. Left em alone and headed back to town. On the way back we saw 3 where we could hunt, pulled a U turn and made a quick play at last light. Got in range but as close to the road as it was they spooked as a truck came by.

This morning we got up with a plan to check on that original herd moving off the neighbors and like we hoped they crossed the boundary and were on ranch property. We looped back, checked wind and found a place to park and made about a half mile stalk to get within range using some cottonwoods and other rows of timber to cover us. They left the timber and came onto a little knoll and I had a few quartering away around 300yds. 305 was the final yardage call from Adam and the guys when I picked out what looked to be one of the bigger cows in the herd. I thumped her and she went lame and just stood there starting to slouch. She wobbled off with the rest so we gave it a few minutes and got downwind to close distance. She was leaning against a tree laboring pretty hard. They’re resilient critters. She wasn’t bothered by us so a follow up shot put her down for good.

175gr Nosler Partition from a 7mm Weatherby Mag did its job just fine. Really glad I didn’t sell the gun. It was cool to take my first elk with a rifle my father in law gave me. She’s hanging in the shop and will be at the processor in the morning.
