I upgraded the NC4x4 forum software tonight to the latest version. This should fix a number of bugs, including several with the editor (the place where you type your message), not least of which is the quoting bug that people with Internet Explorer have been experiencing lately.

New Features

It also introduces a few new features. In particular:

1. The editor supports drag-and-drop (including with images!!!). Want to upload a picture? Drag it from your desktop or whatever right over into your post. It will upload automatically.

2. The editor supports tagging other users (Twitter-style). So if you want your friend to know you're talking about him, you can do it with @Ron or @RenegadeT, and they'll get a notification that you mentioned them in your thread.

3. Posts are now auto-saved, so if you accidentally navigate away before you're finished, it won't disappear like before.

4. You can now "watch" a forum. This will give you the option of getting an email or a notification any time somebody posts in a particular subforum. So if you want to know as soon as a new thread gets posted in Misc For Sale, you can do that now.

Bugs

There are probably a few new bugs as well. I'm working through several of those, but feel free to let me know if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

1. The Upcoming Events data was corrupted by the upgrade and had to be deleted. It looks like it's working properly now, but the address, map, and attendee stuff for existing threads has been deleted. Similarly, those existing events aren't showing up in the calendar. New events should work fine. Please get in touch with me if you have an existing thread that you would like to set up new event information for. I'm pretty sure we can just create a new event and merge in the old thread.

2. All of the Tapatalk users got a slew of notification messages yesterday when I rebuilt the conversation (PM) data. That appears to be due to a Tapatalk bug and should be patched now.

THANKS!!!! Nice updates...like the drag'n'drop!

edit...but when I drop a pic (that works nice) and hit 'post reply' button, I get "The submitted message is too long to be processed. Please shorten it."

How big is the photo?

I've bumped the limits way up, but I think it has a hard stop at like 5MB.

144.9kb...trying again

edit...FWIW, when I tried earlier (same image), it didn't ask thumbnail vs. full....just inserted it...hiccup I guess. Using firefox under Mint.

do all the staff members get the sash ?

EDIT: Apparently so

So far I have to say I really like the updates! I like the new editor as well. Is there a limit on how long a post can be edited?

There is no time limit on editing your own posts in public threads. Posts in PMs get locked after five minutes... basically so you can fix an error or add additional information, but not fundamentally change the meaning of a message several days later.

I'm adding a timeline to my build thread so people that look at my first post of my 1973 CJ-5 Budget Build can see links to take them all updated posts that have pictures/video etc so they do have to scroll through all of it.

Cool...and the sash looks teh gey.

<Edited> Wait! What?

Not since like '09...

you lost the sash

I got about 100 notifications today that were really old. All from tapatalk. Kept saying Shawn sent you a message and it was messages that weren't to me, and some were to me from other people that were conversations from back in 2011. Pretty crazy, figured it was some bug from being a new year.

My OCD doesn't like change...but it works better, so I'll get used to it soon enough :D

Nah, I had to rebuild the conversation data. Doing that triggered a bug in Tapatalk that sent out notifications to people as it processed the messages. Sorry about all that, but I didn't know anything about it until after the fact. The bug should be fixed now. Tapatalk has known about it since October by the looks of things, wrote a patch for it, but never pushed out an updated package to the forums.
