Helped with some volunteer work, today, near Uwharrie. The group was just heading out of the trail, when Noah's Flood, hit us. I headed back Hwy 109, in 2 wheel drive, but still had the front hubs, locked. Crossed several places where the water was running across the road. No problem. Meet 2 vehicles, where the water was covering my side of the road, + the shoulder, & either a gravel driveway, or small gravel road. Hey; I got a lifted Jeep, on 35" tires, I'll just hold my line, & get the underside cleaned, good! WOW! Next thing I know, the splash, has covered my Jeep, & I'm hydroplaning, off the right shoulder, at 45mph. So, I'm holding it straight, but completely off the road, when my memory of the last view I had, told me I had to stop! Fortunately, my speed had dropped to about 20, & my flooded brakes, got me stopped, in the driveway. I could only see, straight ahead, so not seeing any headlights, behind me, I eased back onto 109. Stopped under the Hwy.49 overpass, & unlocked the hubs. NOTHING, like that has Ever happened to me, even with hydroplaning a front wheel drive car! I'll have to assume having the hubs locked, & a lock-right locker in front, & detroit, in the rear, once the right side hydroed, just drove me right off the road! I didn't even think the 35s, Would, hydroplan! Might have been up to 2" of water ON, the road, but that shoulder, was probably 4", with holes. Well, I wont be doing that again. I was already wet, with Cold water, & I didn't feel any Warm water, although, it wouldn't have mattered.
U-All, be Safe, out there!

I had 37x14.5 toyo m/ts back when my tj was a dd. They would hydroplane like crazy! The bigger the footprint the more likely it is.
