Need 2 dealers to help appraise a vehicle

I have a friend who has been building a Ford F1 pickup. HE got it with a messed up, crooked Crown Vic frame under it, and pulled it all out and out a truck frame under it and a 350, and has done lots of work to it.

Now they are ready to get it on the road. He had the highway patrol come look at it, and they issued him a new VIN. Then he went to the DMV and the problems started. The DMV said he needs to get two dealerships to do a write up on company letterhead stating the value of the vehicle for tax purposes. He has contacted every dealership in Shelby and no one will do it.

So I called a scrap customer who has been building a couple of custom vehicles, and he said he is having the exact same problem. No one wants to do the appraisal.

Is anyone on here a dealer, know a dealer, has a dealer whose life they saved? The kid is 19 and is incredibly proud of his truck, and now he can't do anything with it.

Have you tried a CarMax? They always advertise they'll buy from you even if you don't buy from them. Go by, ask for appraisal, decline offer maybe? Only other thing I can think of is a used car lot or a dealer for classic cars. Just an example, not an endorsement, there's a place in Lillington NC called east coast classics. They have an indoor showroom full of muscle cars and such. Someone like that may help. That's all I've got.

I would totally try that. Go there and like auction direct or something. They'll say it is worth like $14 because it is an old truck. Lower taxes that way.

That's what I thought, get the lowest possible quote for tax purposes. Cumberland county keeps reappraising my 67 Fairlane and my 78 trail rig because they are classics every 3 years. They have the fairlane valued at 10k now so taxes and tags are over 100 dollars. They keep trying to put my 78 f150 trail rig at 18k:eek: . I have to fight them every 3 years to drop value down to 1k, by sending them the same pictures.
