I have an 88 ford f150 8.8 rear that I'm swapping into a TJ. We put in a detroit locker with 4.88 gears. We swapped the drum brakes for explorer disc brakes but when we try to reinstall the c-clips, the axles hit the e-brake springs keeping the shafts from slidding in far enough to install the c-clips. Any ideas what to do?

Is it the axle shaft flange actually hitting or is it the back of the wheel studs? How much more do you need?

It is possible you need a set of thinner c-clips depending on how you had to shim the gear set.

Sounds like something is not spaced correctly. You can possibly try a c-clip that is thinner (we have them in stock) but the endfloat on the shaft may be way off when you do get it in far enough to install the c-clip. You can also try pulling down the e-brake from one side and see if the caliper spacing will be correct once the shaft is installed.

I think you have to do some grinding on the axle flange to fit the explorer discs on an F150 axle of this year. Send some pics.
