No my wife didn't leave, my washing machine died. Was looking at getting a front load machine and was wondering if anyone had one and what they thought.

All the reviews you read are either horrible or there great but they've owned it for a week. Seems like they all have some kinda computer system in them too which is crap.

yeah but the general consensus I found was may tag is crap since whirlpool bought it but There seems to be problems with all brands but mostly whirlpool and Maytag.

Whirlpool accounts for damn-near every brand on the market. Maytag, Kenmore, Roper, KitchenAid, Amana, etc. Everything except Frigidaire/Electrolux, Samsung, and Bosch.

I too am interested in hearing what is good, and what to stay away from. Our current washer and dryer are very old. The wife would like to replace them with stackable front loaders to make more room in the laundry/mud room.

Yeah that my main thing is space. I live in less than 1000 sqft house and would like the stack-able option. May end up getting a "combination stack-able" which has a top load washer on the bottom and its built as one unit. (instead of two with a connecting bracket.) Only problem with those is they seem to be a bit smaller.

My brother bought a front load Maytag set for around $1500. Hated them so bad! They ended up part of a class action lawsuit.

yeah that's what I keep finding, How can the home versions be so crappy, some costing 3k per set but the commercial laundry matt ones be so bad ass...

I've been looking at Electroulux, LG, and GE But a lot of them have bad reviews too. I know you got to take bad reviews with a grain of salt but there sure are a lot of them.

I picked up a matching pair of Samsung Steam units. Zero complaints about them. Consumer Reports rated them very highly. I scored them from Lowes when they had an deal going. Regularly they would have cost $3500 for the pair, but we got them out the door with a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty for $1100. I would highly advise the warranty.

The only thing about a front load washer is you have leave the door open so it doesn't mildew.

When I go outside and play on the weekends I get very dirty and they clean my clothes very well.

We have the low end Roper front load from sLowe's
Positives
Cuts down on dry time because it gets much more water out in the ring cycle
Takes a good amount less water
Lil kids love Washer TV
you can leave stuff on the top

Down side(my experience)
Being the lower end, IMO I don't think it gets the cloths as clean as the old top loader.
I usually either let it start up the cut it off, or depending on how dirty some of my stuff i, I keep reseting the timer to get a longer wash cycle.
I use regular washing powders,l and can use less bleach

We bought LG Front Loaders about 3 years ago we love them. Our Laundry room is behind our kitchen and when they are running you can't hear them.We haven't had a single issue out of them maybe with the exception of the Husband Interface Device.

Had our Samsung (more of their upper end) front loaders since August of 2008, and they have worked flawlessly. We do keep the washer door and the soap tray open when not in use, and occasionally (every 2-3 weeks) pull back the rubber boot and wipe it out.

It's amazing how clean they get the clothes. MUCH better than the old top-loaders we had (which were pretty low end). We're on a well so I can't comment about water use, but I've heard it's quite a bit lower. They also hold a lot more clothes in one load.

Use HE detergent and don't second-guess the factory settings for whatever you're washing.

We got a new high efficiancy top loader about a year ago. We went with the top loader because we have freinds that have front loaders and hate them. if you don't leave the doors open and clean the gaskets often then the washer grows mold and mildew causing your clothes to stink like crap. Our machine uses less water than a standard machine and gets the clothes very clean. My wife is super picky about the laundry, she grew up in a Marine house where even the underwear got ironed, and she is very happy with this machine. I will get the info on brand and model tonight and post up.

PS. It took me 5 years to get her to stop ironing my underwear, she still put military creases in the rest of my stuff to this day.:shaking:

I spent $3000 on my washer and dryer set 3 years ago. I bought the top of the line Samsung front loaders with pedestals.

Without going into to much detail, don't waste your money on the front loaders. The new top loads are just as efficient, take less time to wash and don't have the mildewing/mold issues that the front loaders do.

What I don't like:
- I have to leave my washing machine door open, otherwise it starts to stink.
- I have to run vinegar through a cycle when it starts to stink. Nothing else gets rid of it.
- It doesn't cut down on your power or water consumption. Less water, my ass.
- It takes a LOT longer to wash your clothes. The "normal" cycle on my washes for 1 hour and 20 mins. Drying takes an additional 45 mins to an hour.

What I do like:
- They look badass
- They're super quiet
- Loading/unloading is easy.
- Tops of washers make great tables for folding clothes.
- My Samsungs are very reliable. No issues whatsoever to date.

What I'd rather see is a top load washer and dryer set. Seems to me the tub in the dryer could have a "window" for top loading.

^^^^^ These are all of the issues that we heard from freinds that own top loaders that made us get the HE front loader.

When these finally die or I get sick of the maintenance, I'm buying the cheapest set I can find! Roper probably! Simply put, I got marketed to, aka SOLD, SERVED.

We have Bosch front loaders and we have to leave the door open or its going to stink . I do like that its less water going into the septic system , though I am going to convert it to a grey water tank in the future . We had Kenmore HE2s and these vibrate a lot less , but still more than an old style top loader .

Ok I checked our HE top loader and it is the Maytag Bravos model number MVWB750WQ0. It got top rating from Consumer Reports for top loaders. We got it from Lowes in
K-town.

No direct experience with the front loaders myself, but an appliance salesman friend of mine tells me that due to increased vibration a lot of them have trouble with soft floors. If you're on a concrete slab they'll be okay, but wood floor can give you trouble unless t ey are unusually firm. He tells me that using pedestals with them can make it worse.

We bought a Frigidaire front load set about 3 years ago. Worst item I could have bought. I refused to buy the pedestals for an extra $600, figured if needed I would build a set. Bending over really does sucks. About 18months in, crap started to happen, pump got clogged 3 times and I had to remove and clean, the front panel started rusting, had to leave door open, didn't clean clothes as good, then the spin cycle went out and that was the last straw. I was so so happy watching that POS roll off of my truck into the dumpster and make a big ole bang in the collection station dumpster!! Went and bought a top loader and life is good again.

I don't know if this is an issue or if these were older units, but when my wife & I went to the beach a few years ago for our honeymoon we stayed at a beach house for a week. The washer & dryer were on the second floor, third from the ground as it was on stilts. When the washer kicked into high gear at 2AM we the thought the house was going to fall apart! The house shook so bad! It was a regular load of wash, not heavy towels either.

So be careful where you are going to put them if this is a general problem with them.
