Hey folks! I'm new to NC4x4, new owner of a '79 CJ-7, 258 ci I6, she ain't pretty yet, but she's got heart. I took my CJ to a shop to work on a couple of oil leaks, but they tell me that the new rear seals are leaking because the crankshaft is worn. They would normally use a seal restoration kit, but can't find one for the two piece seals...Any advice?

V8 swap lol? Replace the crank? If you do replace the crank I would go ahead and replace the front and rear seals while your in there

a seal restoration kit aka "Speedi Sleeve" is a stainless steel sleeve that is slid over the end of the crank and covers the worn area on the journal. You are looking for Timken Part # KWK9917 according to Rock Auto ($21.79 ) I looked up an '84 CJ7 with 4.2L , should be the same.
I suspect they either were afraid you wouldn't like the cost of the repair ( you will have to pull either engine or trans to remove flywheel to install this part ) or they didn't want to mess with it.
I've used these several times, last one was on a CAT skid steer engine, these are available for just about anything anymore.
