Seems the electric service at my home is worn out. I need to have it replaced and soon. Anyone here do electrical work or know someone that needs the work? I am in Winston Salem, thanks.

I don't know if he'd be willing to travel that far, but WillC did some AWESOME work for me when I built an addition to my house. I think he lives in Albemarle.

How is it worn out? How old is it?

From what I understand, it was a bad design back in the sixties when it was made. The breakers are Zinsco and as they get older the clips lose the tension required to make good contact. The main 220 breaker is giving me problems and I was told I needed to replace the service.

Zinsco breakers are EXTREMELY expensive IF you can find them. They have also been linked to house fires and in some states no longer meet code. Sounds like its time for a new service.
