What are some things i need to look out for on a 89 yj going to look at buying tomorrow ?
i have had about 10 jeeps only one yj though so need to no the stuff to look out for guy says its rust free body and rust free frame

Depends on if its a $1500 YJ or a $5000 YJ. For a $1500 YJ, rust free frame and tub is top priority, everything else is somewhat of a bonus. A $5000 YJ better be low mile, fully rebuild 4.2, great transmission and a lift kit would be a plus too.

check the frame behind the rear spring hanger!

Also pull back and carpet etc, look at floor boards.

Check steering box for any cracks where it bolts to frame.

2.5l or 4.2? check the rear main seal area for leakage.

Looks decent on the outside, so spend most of your time laying on your back looking at everything underneath.

I would want to know if that fender was replaced at some point or painted for fun. Check the soft top for holes and see if the zippers work. As mentioned already, check the frame for rust behind the rear hangers. While you are pulling back the carpet in the floor board, take a look at the firewall for any evidence of a water leak from the cowl/windshield. With a flashlight, you may be able to see the amount of oil sludge build up (if any) thru the oil fill cap. Make sure all the gauges work, especially the fuel gauge.
