Might be making some long arms pretty soon and was wondering who could drill and tap the tubing for me. I'll need right and left 1-1/4" and right and left 3/4". Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I am also going to be building some arms very soon. Have you thought about inserts? What i was thinking about doing was using square tube and welding a deep nut into the square end and using that to thread my joint into.

The lowers will be 2"x.500 wall DOM with a 2.5" Currie Johnny joint with the 1.25" threaded stud. I'm not sure about the uppers though. I was thinking of using a 2" Johnny joint but the threaded stud is only .75". I'm not sure what tubing would be appropriate for the uppers. 1.5 x .375" wall ,1.25"x .25 wall would not work.
1.5x.500"or 1.25x.375 wall would work but seem like major over kill . Any suggestions what the upper should be made from in order to work with the 2" JJ.
I may also go with inserts but would like to get them tapped if the price difference is not too much. The Currie inserts with the hex nut are $20-$25.

Zubz (Andy) has a guy as well that does damn good work. Jim bored and tapped my Currie J-arms this summer when I pulled the threaded Johnny Joints though the arms.

Remember if you get the tubing the ID is going have to be smaller than .75 and 1.25, i believe youll need something like 1.185 for the lowers to have them tapped and probably about .685 for the uppers if you choose to go that route. Jim Reep of Reep Machining is very very good, that is who does most of my heavy machining that i cant do. If you have the rod end properly welded though it should never ever come out, i tig them and rosette in 2 places. If you think that stuff is overkill you dont even want to know what i use for arms, if you havent bought tubing yet i can get it to you way cheaper than anyone, whether its control arm or roll cage stuff. Call Jim and see what he can do for you 704 944 8325, tell him Alex told you to call.

Agreed. That is the same Jim I was talking about.

Who do you think gave Alex the name and number.....;)

Been dealing with Jim for years. However, he cannot tap that tubing for you John without going through me.

I own all of the taps at his shop that he used for 4x4 stuff. I paid for all of them so he cannot use them for any business that is not directly from me. Just the agreement we have since I shelled out all of the $$ for the expensive ass taps.

Call me John, I will make sure you get taken care of.

Andy

Yes Andy gave me the number, thanks again for a good source for machining, not meaning to be a dick about it, just trying to help people out, if its that big of a deal i have the same taps.

Alex,
I was not trying to be a dick. Just making sure John knew so that if he called Jim he didn't get surprised when he asked about the tapping.

John has been a long standing customer of mine and I wanted to make sure he got the right information.

Who do you think provided Jim with the tapered reamer to do your 2233L you just had him machine..........if I was a dick I would have told him that he couldn't use my reamer. He called me and I said not problem at all.......

Well thanks for letting me use that reamer, i couldnt stand spends 350 dollars on a reamer ill only use every now and then, looks like everyone is takin care of, thanks again

Since we're on this subject, I have a question about tapping tubing for the "1-ton" TRE's. Last set I got was only tapped about 1.5-2" deep so I had to cut about 1" off the threaded ends of the TRE's.

Is there anyone out there that can tap them to full depth (about 3") so you don't need to shorten the TRE's?

My 7/8 taps have about 2" of thread, but i normally run them in another inch for a total of around 3" of threads. I have never had to cut any threads off the tie rods.

Wierd. The machine shop i use may have not tapped yours quite that deep for some reason. Let me know, I can always have them run it deeper. They are supposed to do it like mentioned...... Let me know and I will be glad to get it taken care of for you

Sounds like the machinist and I have to have a discussion.......I will make sure it is taken care of.

Thanks for letting me know Richard.
