An Aussie locker takes the place of the spider gears in your differential. You don't have to mess with setting up your ring and pinion. It is a very easy install. If you bought it new, just follow the directions that came with it.
i installed my aussie locker a few weeks ago. It was pretty easy to install and you could probably do it yourself, just follow the installation manual. If you dont feel comfortable doing it by yourself shoot me a pm.
tell ya what if you want to drive to my place in Wake Forest. I'll supervise YOU doing the work. Bring gear lube and a tube of RTV. I have all the tools you will need, bring your parts just drive over. First time will take you ~3 hours.
Your underage so I won't ask you to bring beer but you can bring some grill food if you like...
I'd take Yager up on his offer. I've done an aussie before and it's a good learning experience... You don't have to mess with the gears to do it... Easiest way is to mark the carrier bearing races to put them back in the orientation they came out and pull the whole carrier out and do it on a workbench. Take your time.
I would take Mike up on his offer. Not trying to deter you from supporting the board vendors, but if someone is going to offer to teach you to install it and let you use his tools it is kind of a no brainer. Just make sure that you hook Mike up with a killer lunch
As easy as it is for use to do it its not worth the 3 hour drive like you said. Its 5 bolts on each side once you get the tires off to get the axles out. Its a cake walk after that. Its a great learning experience and suggest you try it and let someone supervise like. After all, if you break a shaft on the trail or have some issues you need to know how to fix it yourself.
If you must have someone do it call Chase.
The ring gear has to come off on dana 30's to put in the lockright (I mean Aussie) so removing carrier is nescisary. if it was a 60 or other you can do it with only pulling one shaft. keep track of which side the bearing races came from, Dana caps are marked from the factory, but keep those in order as well. mark ring gear to carrier position. If ring gear bolts are reused clean well with wire brush and brake clean clean ring gear holes and dry apply loctite and torque to 55lbs.
If mike screws it up its double just kidding i would let mike put one in for me for the offer he is making. Chase
I would plan to do it on a day where you could spend extra time if needed. So probably next weekend would be better. Feel free to send me a PM later next week.
