So here is the project : 87 jeep wrangler yj with a new clutch (pressure plate, disk, master cylinder and slave cylinder).

Now the problem: no matter what I can't get the clutch to bleed. After three full days of non stop bleeding and at least a gallon of dot 3 the clutch still won't bleed and feels really soft. If the motor is off I can cycle through e gears but as soon as I turn it over I can't get it into gear no matter what. The most I get out of the clutch is a soft peddle not what a new clutch should feel like.

Over seriously tried everything. I've tried standard bleeding, hooking it up to a hand pump, bleeding for, the master cylinder.......everything. Im out of ideas and have damn near given up hope. For what its worth everything is new on this system from the engine, flywheel, clutch system, and trans.

I need help!!!!!

is the rod on the slave moving? it shouldnt be that tough to bleed man i have had some tough one but that sounds like a bear

are there any holes in the bellhousing that allow to to see the slave?
was the slave "banded" in the closed position? (tie strap looking thing attached to the sides)
did you feel the band pop yet?
i admit these are some of the worst to bleed.
here is how i do them, i use a hood prop (long extension works) and push the pedal to the floor and use the seat to keep it depressed.
open the bleeder and wait for a good stream of fluid( not the initial blast), close the bleeder, and fill master
now i sit in the truck and pump the pedal until both my legs burn
if i still have no pedal, it's time to find out what is wrong because 90% of the time that will give me an indication of if i'm actually doing anything.

were they both multi-finger pressure plates?
the more fingers on the pressure plate, the softer the pedal.
did you match the heights of all the parts?
did you install a new pilot bearing/bushing?
sorry for all the questions but that's the only way i can try to help

The slave and master are both new. Slave came as part of the new clutch kit I bought. Hel, I was even so paranoid that the kit was bad that I pulled the trans back out three threw the stock one back on just to try and still had the same results.......I know it's a bleeding issue now, and just need some way to tackle it! If anyone has had any experience with an IMPOSSIBLE clutch, any tricks or different way to get it done.

I'm not familiar w Jeep hydraulic clutches, but replaceing 80s Toyotas, (slave outside the bellhousing), requires adjusting the pedals stroke under the dash for the proper stroke w/the new master cylinder. Too be sure you didn't pop the clutch fork half off the throwout bearing while installing the transmission twice?? that could cause this effect.......... at least on Toyotas,....Don't ask how I know this!!!!!

Did you bench bleed the master first? I would start at the master, might have air trapped.

Well I figured it out. Pulled the trans out again last night and took the whole clutch out. Started going over everything again comparing it to the stock clutch. After looking st it it hit me. The pressure plate was the WRONG one, the teeth are about 3/4 inch shorter than the stock setup, couldn't believe this was overlooked upon install and insall and makes sense now.

So we get it all boxed back up take it to autozone and have them look at it. They pull three more kits (all same part number) from the shelf and what do u know. All the kits have different parts, each and every one!

Bottom line. NEVER BUY BUDGET! What a crock of &$>%. !
