i've been kicking around the ideas of what motor tranny xfer case set up to run in my yj project. I've thought about using my 429, c6 set up but don't know if i want all that weight in a jeep. also, i can get a 4.0 from another jeep to use but don't know if i want the same thing everyone else is running. same goes for most other v8 options. even thought about small diesel but just can't make up my mind. maybe some of you guys can put some ideas in my head for me and let me know what kind of experiences you have had with different set ups.

BTW, it will be running D44, 9" bronco axles, SOA set up with xj leaves, and coils up front.

what about a 5.2 or 5.9 from a zj? i never hear of yj guys running those motors.....

or you could be like all the other guys and get a caddy 500 on pane.... :)

i'm sure if i could find a 5.2 or a 5.9 it would break the bank. although, that would be nice. not sure about the 500, but i would end up running pane on the 429 if i went that route.

If you got the money or a good hookup, its hard to beat a newer GM 5.3. With little modifications you can get over 300hp, and it's still pretty simple.

stroked 215 buick/olds alum v8. weighs about the same as most 4cyl. ~340-350lbs I want to put one in a 4runner, but time and other projects have kept me from getting past just getting a buildable motor. I've got most of the parts, just lack of time. I'm looking @ 300hp ~350 torque. More than adequate, and better than a stroked 4.0HO

best source of info one these is:

BTW, rover blocks are nearly identical, so finding one is easy.

BBC of course :gitrdun:

Briggs and Straton 12 horse

And then if you want to spend some money later, a ZL1 ramjet would work nicely.

It all depends on what your budget will allow.
Your best bang for your buck will be SBC.

SBC, TH350/700R4, and a D300.

Just my $.02

the briggs and stratton is more in my price range than most of these suggestions. what are your opinions on running the 429? since i already have it and it runs good and the tranny works good i'm thinking that would be the cheaper way other than converting over to propane. plus, i wouldn't have to deal with a computer. do you think that heavy of an engine would cause a problem? how much do the big and small block chevys weigh?

I think the SIZE of the BBF would be an issue...

What about selling it and getting a different combo?

429 is HUGE by LARGE and heavy.

For the simplist and cheapest route go with the 4.0. They have plenty of power and are pretty durable. Lee, on the board, has a complete swap for sale including the harness. 4.0 and aw4 IIRC

I would also agree with the 4.0, but while its out, rebuild it and stroke to a 4.6L. What I think would be the hotness would the a 4.7 out of the grand cherokee's, followed by an NV4500.

i've been trying to sell the 429 complete in the car for a while now but no hits. would really like to buy a 5.0 ford or a v8 from a grand

I like my boring 302. :driver:
