im some what new to jeeps but i purchased a 1970 cj-5 (early body style) from a friend a while back and it was almost a basket case but it had under 53,xxx original miles and he was the 2nd owner it has the 225" buick engine and has dana 27 and 44(off center) axels i have re wired everything and put all new lights, new gas tank, fuel lines, rebuilt carb(rochester2gc) and lots of other things to make it as road ready as a old jeep can get but i havent "fixed" the brakes yet because he said it only needed a wheel cylinder but it needs drums, shoes and spring kits on all 4 so would it be cheaper to convert it to 11" brakes insted of the 10" or ?
any help would great as idk what to do at the moment thanks for any help u can give

If your keeping it stock I would stick with the 10", the 11" kits are about $1000. If your gonna put in a v8 and 35"+ tires then you'd be swapping axles anyways. I'm driving 2 old jeeps now with the 10" drums and they stop just fine for me. Good luck.

The 10s are definately alot better than the 9's 11 is great. You can look around and find 11s. Looks for drum brakes Dana 30s and you can bolt the front drums right to your axle. I rode with 11s in front and 10s in the rear and that was a fine setup. Fortunately you should have the dual resovior MC on the frame rail. The older single cylinder is not fun when you run out of fluid. But looks around you can get new setup for $600.

You can find them a bit cheaper from some palces but it looks like the price. But keep an eye out for used ones.
