I have been looking on maps, website and other pages trying to find some trails. Looking for backcountry/4x4 roads in the NC mountains. Not looking for roads with a couple of bumps and hills looking for roads that are challenging/ real off roading. I know there are roads out there but I just got to find them. Does anyone know of some trails up in the NC mountains? Thanks

So legal ones not many. The problem is finding ones that are legal. dont be that guy and get caught wheeling illegally. on top of hefty fines it paints a bad image for the rest of us. I had no idea Illegally wheeling was a thing till i went to NJ when a state trooper caught me coming out of a powerline trek. he was cool and informed me that along with impound the state could hit me with 1,000 dollars in fines. very liberal state. not sure what the penalties are here but that strayed me away from then on and that was 10 years ago.

Hurricane Creek out at mile marker 8 on I40 is still legal. for the most part, not really challenging but it's a nice day.

They ain't none aside from private property.

Uwharrie opens April 1st.

Yeah Uwharrie is you best bet. You could run down to Gulches in SC if you wanna do some good off roading.

But for anything else legal besides Uwharrie you’re limited to Brown Mountain, or drive 3-4 hours to WV for Kairos, The Ranch, and similar places.
