I have what has been a wonderful dog that I now need a home for. She attacked one of our dachshunds yesterday over a bone. She's never been aggressive before. I think she could make someone who doesn't have small dogs a wonderful companion. She's been a great addition to our family. If any one can help or knows someone who can help please let me know. This is somewhat of a time critical problem as I have to keep her segregated from my other dogs and the kids who are freaked out. I don't think she is a danger but that doesn't help how the kids feel. Her name is Aspen. She's 4 years old and I've had her for 3 years. She's fixed and up to date on her shots.

Awe! She's such a cutie!!
I wish I could help, but we are looking to move and might have to rent something in between set ups. I don't want to get her all settled and then have to rehome again and uproot her... I'll ask around my work though, if no one up here takes her!

Thank you. She's been a great dog. Probably the best dog I've ever owned.

Fine. I'll be the asshole.

So you've had a dog for 3 years and now it attacks your hound over a bone. What kind of bullshit is this? Do you get rid of your kids too when they decide to throw their Legos at you? One time my dog snapped at my kid over a bone. Guess what I did. I got rid of the bone. Never had another problem.

Also, hounds are known to be the aggressors often times. Mine was a full blown asshole. Are you sure the hound wasn't trying to be dominate and take the bone away?

Yea till it killed the other dog. So yea your an asshole.

Whoa, now that's a completely different situation all together. You originally said "attack", but now you are saying that Aspen killed the doxy?

I don't believe it was her intention. But really if your not interested in helping I'm quite sure there are other thing you can do. Thank you though.

I doubt it was her intention, either. Has something changed in your home situation recently? Were there other things going on when the fight occured that could have stressed her out? Could she be sick or injured, changing her demeanor?

As a former foster 'parent' and as someone who knows what it's like to have a rescued dog's previous environment misrepresented to us, it bothers me that you conveniently left a very critical fact out of both this original post and the one I saw last night in the 'free' forum. I empathize with your situation and I can't imagine having to make the decision you are making, but anyone considering helping Aspen is entitled to the facts of the situation.

I hope for the best, under the circumstances.

I agree with this 100%. I didn't know there was an ad in the free section till I read this.

Me and who ever actually has interest in Aspen will have a conversation. So far though most of the conversation hasn't been from any who actually intends to help. Mainly just people who feel compelled to criticize a situation that is already difficult enough. And I did say "Attack". Maybe that means something different to everyone else but for me that's serious. If it wasn't I wouldn't be here asking for help. If I thought she was truly dangerous I would have dug 2 holes. Besides the fact that I REALLY don't want to do that. I truly believe she deserves a chance. She's been a wonderful dog. She made a mistake.

So always been kid friendly? Have a family member that is looking to replace a dog that passed 5-6 months ago. Is she good about staying around?

Yes always been great with the kids. I've never let her run free though. We have a fenced in back yard so that's where she runs. She an inside dog well manered. We used to leave her free in the house when we all went somewhere. But a few years ago I got laid off and spent all day at the house. When I went back to work she would shred anything paper to confetti. So we crate trained her and that's where she goes when we leave the house. but because of me and my wife's work schedule she is almost never in the crate. She loves to snuggle at night and during the day she very laid back. Only barks when someone is coming in the house. Literally never barks otherwise. She truly has been the best dog.

Jumping on the bandwagon didn't help much, I agree, and I apologize. I have a dog that is aggressive and has sent my old dog that's not with us any longer to the ER twice. I understand where you are coming from and it's not an easy decision. In my case, it worked out to keep her, luckily. I will still pass along to anyone I know looking.

Reading all of this I feel very lucky. All three of my dogs came from three different places. All get along fine. I was worried a little with the last one to call my home, their home, a female pit. So far after several months, no issues other than having to separate her from the other two when feeding time come. No, not aggression, but when she came she near starved to death. Now, fat and sassy. But the other two do not eat as fast as she does, so she will scoot them over and take over. So a baby gate to allow time for the others to eat is what it takes.

I do hope you find it a good home.

Until yesterday we've never had a problem. We had one little weiner when we got her and no problems. We got this second little weiner about 5 months ago. And still no problems till yesterday. Thank you. I wouldn't wish this situation on anyone. Between the wife the kids, one of which seen it happen, and myself this really just sucks. Again thank you.

Sorry for your loss. Tough situation all around. I already have a great 30lb rescue mutt, and wife won't let me get another, because she already has 2 rescue mutts to feed and pet (the big dumb one does help pay the bills though).

I think the blue eyed dog has some coyote blood ;) :shaking:, and wiener dogs can be some feisty sobs. Dogs will be dogs and now and then they may check and/or change their collective pecking order, because they're dogs.
