Need help w/ electric fan thermostat

I'm wiring in my adjustable thermostat and the instructions say to hook a wire to the A/C clutch wire. Apparently this is an override feature, I guess to cut off the compressor for some reason.

I have three questions:

1. Do I even need to worry about making this connection?

2. Why would the electric fan need to override the A/C clutch?

3. I only see two wires going into the compressor, one black one blue w/orange stripe. The black appears to be grounded so I assume I would make the connection to the blue/orange stripe wire?

Thanks

If this fan is going on a crawler I don't think I wouldn't worry about the adj thermostat. I had my thermostat go bad on me this past weekend on a ride. I was holding up a group of 13? vehicles cause of this thing. So I just straight wired it to the switch so it runs constantly cause it ran all the time anyway when it hit 190 degrees. So I just took something out of the equation that will eventually cause trouble again. just my two cents.

I have nothing to really add to your question. sorry.

^^^
I figured it would run most of the time anyway, especially during the summer but this is on a DD so I suppose I should have the thermostat installed.

Ok, think I figured out why I need to make the connection to the A/C compressor. Apparently if the engine is cool enough w/out the fan but I am using the A/C it will turn on the fan.

Like you found out, it just turns the fan on when the AC compressor is running to pull air through the AC condenser. Not exactly necessary.
It's also easy to wire an on/off switch to whatever relay your thermostat is using so you can cut it on whenever you like.

Sounds like someone is using a Black Magic.

When I installed mine I used an adjustable Thermostat and have thought many times about taking it out. I have had it not turn the fan on a few times. Like stated earlier it runs 99% of the time anyways.

You should consider putting in a bypass type switch.

On - Fan works when key is on and the thermostat is engaged
Off - Shut down, You do not want to hit water with the fan running
On - Direct on, this way you can bypass the thermo and run the fan straight off the battery

I got a 3 position switch from Radio Shack, like $3

I have a switch wired in to cut it out for water crossing if this Jeep ever gets wheeled like that but I did not wire it up to bypass the thermostat.
From what I researched last night, the fan probably won't need to run while driving at speed due to the natural airflow through the radiator but it will need to run at slower speeds or w/the A/C on.

BINGO!!!

Ok, where the Heck is the A/C clutch wire I need to tap into? Every wire I have tried is either constant or gnd. I can't seem to find the one that goes hot when the A/C is turned on. Per Haynes it is supposed to be a Dark Blue/Yellow tracer if I'm reading the diagram correctly.
