:shaking:My 86 CJ7 came with AmC 150,t5,dana 300 and everything is out of the jeep. I can't makeup my mind to rebuild the 4 banger or go with 350 GM SM465 np205 . I have both setups and does anyone here run the GM setup in a CJ7. What all has to be converted and I all ready have the gm 350 motor mounts. Would the rear drive shaft be to short , thanks for any input with my project. Any links on the convirson to the GM setup would help me out,, Thanks again steven

your GM stuff is drivers side drop, the CJ front D30 axle is passenger drop, so you're looking at mallcrawling in 2wd or an axle swap. The rear axle might not like a V8, but you could proablaby get by. Wait til everything's mounted to worry about the rear driveshaft.

The dana 300 is a really good t-case. Adding an adapter to the SM465 to mate to the dana 300 would be a great way to go. Novak and Advance Adapters both sell the needed adapter

So when did this GM stuff decide to be driver side drop???????????????????????????? I always remembered it being passenger side drop. STUPID (KNOW IT ALL ME) BUT YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE REAR NOT LIKING IT

Depends on what year his Chevy stuff is out of, but my best guess is that it is a PSD. He didn't say what rear axle he has. Some of the 86 Cj's come with a Dana 44, While others had the AMC Corp 20. The 20 isn't a bad axle, if you truss it and put in one piece axle shafts. Drive shafts being right length is doubtful. Also, IIRC the rear output on the 205 is different too. Some had slip yoke, some have a flange. The 205 sucks as far as gearing, but there is an 3:1 kit out, but I think expensive. As stated above I would go with the 300 and an adapter. Although, there is a 203 to 205 doubler that is massive strong. But I am sure that would way too long for a stock CJ-7.
Another thing to figure in is if the 350 is carborated or FI.
The T-5 isn't too strong of a tranny, a better choice would be a T-176
With fuel going like it is, I would be tempted to stay with the 2.5
OK so I have confused you enough
Good luck

Sorry for that, I have a Dana 44 rear from the factory and I guess I'll rebuild the 2.5 banger and keep the t5 and dana 300. thanks for all the input...
