Here's the deal. I'm stuck in Raleigh my daughters '97 Maxima is in Charlotte with her. She works till 11:00 pm tonight.

It wouldn't start last night. She has had a problem with this in the past and shifting between park and drive a couple of times have solved it. I think it may just be the switch that tells the car it's in park is bad.

She had it towed to AAA for free. (we are members) but the AAA shop there says they can't find the problem and wants to replace the starter for $350 to see if that fixes it.

I can't believe they can't test it to find out if it is bad.
As stated I'm stuck in Raleigh because my dad is in the hospital.

I'm looking for a trust worth mechanic I can have it towed to in Charlotte to find out what is wrong and have repairs done at a fair price. Or if anyone could check it out I'm willing to pay. Thanks for any help. Dave

There is a place on South BLVd Almar auto repair.
They have never personally done work for me, but have for friends and I would highly recommend them.

When I sold my wife's Tahoe, the owner requested I take it there and have them check it out for him, because he has health issue sand didnt want to be stranded etc. They spent an hour or so went through the vehicle very thoroughly and gave him a comprehensive and fair opinion. They charged him like $50 for that. I met both owners and they seem like super nice down to earth folks.

Gibson Automotive & Tire Center on South Blvd is another good one. I've not taken anything there myself, but all of my co-workers swear by them. They've done timing belts, clutches, starters, etc for my co-workers and never a complaint.

Not sure where in Charlotte her car is, but if it is north (close to Concord) I can recommend Pitts Repair Shop, located on Pitts School Rd in Concord. Anytime I have a problem that I don't feel like dealing with, I go to them.

RON, thanks for the help. We had it towed to Almar and in no time got a call starter was fine but it needed an ignition. They fixed it for $175 and I didn't have to waste $350 on a starter we didn't need. I was very impressed how they handled everything.

glad to help!
I was impressed when I met those guys...glad they backed up my impression!

Well she got her car fixed final cost $167 and the owner even told her he knew what caused it. He told she has to heavy a key chain. Boy was he right! That thing had 10lbs of crap hanging off of it. Normal 19yo girl has to have all the cool stuff on it...:shaking: She was very impressed with all the people there. I'm glad that I now know a "safe" fair place for her to go now. Thanks again Ron.
PS anyone wanna buy a '97 maxima....
