So I took my girlfriends car to the car wash today (the ones with the brushes). I hate these things but I dont have the facilities to wash it here at my apartment so I figured I would be nice and wash it. Well the brushes bent the antenna to almost 90 degrees. I didnt really have to much time to look at it tonight. It is one that is automatic (goes up and down) but is stuck in the up position. How much trouble would it be to replace it? Can I just put a regular one on it or does it need to be an automatic one? It is a 95 Accord if that matters. Thanks Casey

There is a way to remove the mast to replace it, but it also involves using the power motor to release the internal drive, and from the sound of it, it's toast also ( very normal issue, even mine is in permenant down position)

You can get into the trunk and play with the motor and try to replace the mast, or maybe look up Crutchfield and see what they have to offer for replacment, then see if you can find similar else where. Dealer price for antenna motor and mast is in the $200 range.

I fixed mine by installing XM head unit and remote reciever, funny how the commercials disappeared too.

directly under the mast in the rear quarter panel, may have to pull the inner trunk liner.

shouldn't be too difficult, unless yours is a wagon ( mine is ) then you get to start disassembling the interior.

cant you get "fixed" antenna replacements? If so I would do that, I had to replace one of those antennas for work one time and it was a PITA. you will need the special socket to take the antenna mast off (might be able to use vise grips or channle locks though), and most of the bolts for the motor should be 10mm. But it still isnt fun. the motor is behind the driver side rear quarter panel behind all the carpeting and stuff. you have to pop off the sideing stuff and probably unscrew a few screws. then it will be behind the actual metal body between the inside of the trunk and the body.

crappy discription, and i hope i am thinking of the same car! haha.

OK Thanks

Im probably going to try to replace it with a fixed antenna if possible.

just beware that a fixed ant. can damage the sheet metal in the same car wash.

best bet would be to use the self wash bays from now on.

Trust me I will never use one of those again. I honestly thought it was one of the touchfree ones before I got there.

if its a power antenna, just fix it right, then turn off the radio before going through the wash.

You can buy an antenna and mast on ebay for like 15 bucks. I did this. I replaced the one on my POS honda (thanks reid) in about 15 minutes. it comes with directions and is very simple....just feed the antenna while turning off the radio and it sucks the teethed lower portion down into the motor. You WILL need 2 people or the antenna wont go down all the way because you missed the first second of motion by running to the back of the car. ASK me how i know this! :flipoff2

It shouldn't matter, just turn in on and off again. the motor stops running when it comes under stress. This keeps it from burning up incase you get it bound, ice, bent mast, etc.
You should be able to get a replacement mast at an auto parts store, easy to put in. If not an auto parts store, the at the Honda dealership for sure.

Mikey did you get the antenna from someone or place in particular on ebay?

Well I took it apart tonight and i think that it was just the cable had broke. The motor is still good. So all i need is the mast right? Where can i get the mast? And how does it come off. Does the silver end cap come off or what?

How can i remove the part of the mast that broke off in the tube and the part of the cable that broke off?

Where the antenna goes into the fender, there should be a nut of some kind that you need to remove.
The mast should now be free and when you turn the radio on (whatever raises the ant.) then the belt should feed itself out.
If the belt is intact you should be good to go, if not you will have to remove the entire assembly and get out the pieces. But from what you said happened, it should be intact.

I've had to do it both ways and getting the power ant. out of my turbo supra was a pita.

Well I think that part of the cable is still in it. Im thinking im going to have to take the whole thing out but I didnt have any luck getting it out last night. I know there is a nut I have to take off somewhere put i cant figure out where it is. There is a silver cap where the mast goes into the fender and I turned it but it never loosen up.

Crap, no Accords in the parking lot here LOL.....On my 3000gt it is a bottle cap shaped nut with 4 groves in it (top, bottom, left, right), I used a lock ring tool to get it off.

WOOT found what you are looking for.....
