My buddy bought some new wheels for his 07 tacoma and his old ones have been sitting around for a while. Im wanting to go to an alluminum wheel to save on weight and try to get a little bit more power on the highway. My question is, are the factory 07 tacoma wheels (16" or 17"?) alluminum or steel? Also can somebody tell me what they are probably worth so I know how much to offer him? I dont want to rip him off and if they are worth 400 bucks I might as well buy some new alluminum wheels. Does anybody know if they are 6" or 7" wide?
His truck is a 4x4 extended cab but not TRD edition. Thanks!

It depends on the truck, really. I have seen both steel and aluminum wheels on the 2nd Gen Tacoma's. The standard 4x4 steel wheels are 16x7. The 5 spoke "snowflake" TRD (and some PreRunner) aluminum wheels are also 16x7. The 5 spoke aluminum TRD Sport wheels are 17x7.5. The spare for standard, 4x4, PreRunner, and TRD OffRoad wheels are black 16x7 steel wheels. The TRD Sport spare is a black 17x7(?)" steel wheel.

Before you purchase them, make sure he gets the tire pressure monitoring sensors out of the factory wheels if he hasn't done so yet. At roughly $150 each, he likely wants to hang on to them.

Now, I bought my 17" TRD Sport wheels from a guy here in Wilmington for $100, but I have seen them go for close to $400, depending on how much the seller likes them.

x2 - If its a 2007 4x4 non-TRD, it should have 16x7 wheels.

The aluminum wheels look something like this...

Steelies should look like this...

I've seen the stock 16" aluminum wheels sell for $350 or more, for a set of 4, on customtacos.com. Theres not a huge market for them though, as most people who replace their stock wheels tend to go for something aftermarket.

Just noticed your screen name is "Nissan11"

The 4x4 Frontier and Tacoma are both 6-lug, but I dont think they're the same pattern. That's worth looking into before you buy a set of wheels.

True, I think the newer Frontier's changed to a smaller 6 lug pattern, but that was in the last few years. Earlier ones were the same. My fiancee's 97 Infiniti QX4 (Nissan Pathfinder) is 6x5.5.

One other thing to consider is many factory cast aluminum wheels are not much lighter than a steel wheel of the same size. Her stock 16x7 aluminum wheels were considerably heavier than the stock steel 16s off my brother's f150.

OK thanks for the help. My frontier is an 02 and its 6 on 5.5. If his wheels are not going to be much lighter than my 15x7 steel bullet holes then Im not going to bother with them.
