a properly maintained 4.0 should usually be good for at least 225k on average.

If it has the oil pressure guage in the dash pay attention to it at startup and also after its warmed up. a strong motor will read around 20 psi at idle when warm/hot and jump to the 40psi range when under throttle.
 
My 89 had 240k when I sold it, never had a single problem out of it, submerged it, revved the shit out of it, generally abused the thing from 195k on and never had a problem, now the axles and the trans were not as kind but the motor is bulletproof. :)
