need input(wheel cylinder)

:popcorn:i am changing out the wheel cylinder on my 92 cherokee (4x4 4.0) in case it mattered, was wondering if there were any tricks or shortcuts or any helpful info will be greatly appreciated. thanks, Justin
 
pretty straight forward...take the wheel off, take the drum off, unscrew the brake line, unbolt the cylinder, move the shoes so you can get the cylinder out... then do it in the reverse order...

When you are done bleed the brakes.

As long as you don't touch the other side and have a reference of how things go back together you should be fine... Somtimes a spring or something will come loose and it's hard to tell where it went.
 
good advice above, key to drum brakes if you have never done them is always leave one side complete as a reference until you know exactly how they go together. also unless your brake shoes are brand new, you might as well replace everything while your at it. the cost for drum brakes are cheap in comparison to the headaches you can get sometime because one wheel cylinder is stronger than the other. just my .02

yes it is pretty straight forward, it calls for 1.4 hours to do both rear brake shoes/hardware and wheel cylinders along with a quick brake bleeding... also,its alot easier to bleed the brakes if you have a buddy helping you pump the brake pedal while you loosen up the bleeder nipples to let the air out.

like he said, so much easier with a friend.
 
i would also suggest replacing both. for the little bit of money it will cost you. if the one your replacing has 100,000 miles on it and replace it, the other side will most likely be leaking before you know it.
i always replace brake parts in pairs. if a caliper is bad, i replace both. you wouldn't just put pads on on side...........would you?
 
cool. thanks guys! im about halfway mechanically inclined, always tinkered with my own stuff but never messed with drum brakes. gettin started now, so i will keep you posted. thanks again.

well got both wheel cylinders and all the tie rods changed. took longer than i wanted, but @ least its done right! now if only i knew someone that did alignments........ ? suggestions around Kannapolis?
