Guys,
Does anyone know of a good company that will write a stated value policy for an off road only jeep. I need coverage that will pay out if something happens while I'm on the trail. I had a policy thru GMAC, but they are not going to renew once up in may.

Thanks
Jody

We have liberty mutual. I talked at length w/ the rep about this for my 4Runner, he said they would do it - you just tell them what you want it valued at, and they will charge you for it accordingly. I was quite surprised how casual he was about it, after several other agencies essentially say "no way".

That said - I haven't actually tried putting it in place yet.

Liberty Mutual told me the smae thing Dave, until we got to the part about off road use the process ground to a halt.
I can not find anything that will insure a stated policy vehicle against off road use.

I have found several that will cover it if it burns up in the garage or gets totalled on the trailer. The problem for me is no VIN plate, no Title no dice.

We have state farm and were going to drop the ins but agent said full coverage would cover it even tho it is not registered. Jen even told him it was an off road rig only and he still says it would be covered.

thanks guys, mine is titled, and I can find people to cover for theft or fire, but off road is the issue. I guess if i roll it off a mountain I could put it on the trailer and act like it came off while towing lol

I have regular ol' insurance thru Farm Bureau. When I rolled my jeep last year at The Flats, I turned it in. I was completely honest about everything, including where I was and what I was doing. They came out to look at it and determined it was totaled. They wrote me a check for more than I expected, and I kept the jeep. They canceled the collision part of my policy, but kept the liability policy I need to keep it registered and on the road. But they were upfront with me on that and I thought that was fair.

If it happens at URE then it doesn't matter, the trails are considered state roads so there shouldn't be an issue with a claim. Others have done it before.

?? I thought the roads to the trails were, but the trails were not. Hence you don't need tags, seat belts, lights, etc to ride on them.

I think it's that the insurance company sees them as state roads or something along that lines I'm not really sure but I know of two different occasions where someone has claimed something on insurance that happened on trails.

Any auto policy should cover your vehicle where ever it is at whether it's on pavement or rocks. As long as your not in competition.

As far as a stated amount I will probably be going with Hagerty when I finish mine.

Hagerty will not insure any vehicle used off road or in 4wheel drive situations...is what I was told.

I have Liberty Mutual, and I have asked SEVERAL TIMES about similar thing, they say anything i do to it that doesn't involve another vehicle is comprehensive. I've had them since I was old enough to legally drive.

Then they are probably over charging you.

It's good to shop for rates every 5 years.

Actually I am about to start shopping every 1-2 based on something I learned recently.
Makes sense but I never thought of it. When is the last time your insurance went down each year?
Ok now your insurance company and ask for a quote on an 06 vehicle and an 05 tell them you are looking at 2 different trucks...The 05 will be cheaper as it is older and pay out in case of damage would be less...only they dont reduce your rate every year because of depreciation they actually usually raise it slightly.

My rates have gone down each year the past few years because of divorce, moving, combining policies, etc. But The service I get from them when I need them, I'll not change.

I must be missing your point - of course it is comprehensive?
So yeah you have to pay for Comp to get coverage for damage etc.
But having comp dosn't mean they cover "everything", you have to read closely about what it says it will indeed cover.

Interesting point. Never really thought about that.
We recently bailed on Nationwide after 12 years, b/c the rates kept going up. Both wife and I had some bad accidents awhile ago - so naturally our rates jumped. We expected that. But every 6 months they kept going up even more... after 3 years (the typical window they use) no change for the better... called up Liberty and a few others, and wow magically their rates were 1/2 what NW had become....

Um... it sounds to me like you have a shitty insurance company. Ours goes down every year unless we buy something new.
