that was the deal. they would pay her unemployment(as they have everyone elses in the company) and pay for her schooling. for 2 yrs

unemployment for 2 years??????

Yeah man. I don't know what kind of stuff they've got going now, but I know that if you got laid off in late 2008 or early 2009, you could be on unemployment for like 18 mos, no problem. The Congressional Dems kept putting "emergency" supplemental funding into all the spending bills.

I'm no help to the OP, though.

I'm pretty sure that was (is?) a government mandate. If a company moved your job out of the country they had to provide you with training for another job. I went to school with several people that were in that situation.

Tell her to give Food Lion a look, when I left there, they were bringing on a whole bunch of temps. From the sounds of it, you can negotiate a damn good wage as a temp. I also know there have been 'temps' there going on 2 years...and I also know 'temps' that were hired full time within a couple weeks. They're currently going through an accounting shared services conversion and a payroll conversion, it would be a lot of tedious and menial labor like filing, manual data input, scanning, etc...but it's a paycheck.

with a Bach in accounting put an add up on Craigslist for getting taxes done and just undercut all the other ones. I wish I could help, I understand the situation you are in seeing as I just went through it before I found this job.

Does she have this in writing?
Seems like lawsuit material to me.

That said - I didn't think the company decides how long former employees get unemployment, that's dictated by the Feds... right?
Unless is it a seperate fund they agreed to pay into...

Check out DZ Atlantic. They do hiring for the McGuire plant in Huntersville/LKN. (Duke Energy plant on Lake Norman) A friend of mine got a job answering phones and doing data entry. She's making $18 an hour.

Here's a list of their jobs: http://www.workatlantic.com/Positions.aspx?type=Craft
great company to work for. i work for them now. going on 2 years. pay is great and people r too!

cool deal guys thanks for the info, and the govt allots you so many paid weeks and supposedly shes over her alloted weeks. however a guy she worked with was let go a week later(got same benefits) and he is still getting paid as of this week. we are going to ride it out a week and if he gets paid again,if so then all hell will break loose.

I believe it also goes on how long you were employed.

she was there 10yrs. from graduation(h.s.) til current.

Yeah, something doesn't seem right there. There is a maximum amount of time you can receive benefits, but I know of someone who worked a job for less than a year and has been on UE for well over a year now.

Is there an appeal process?

WBT Breaking News: Mooresville-Based Lowe's To Layoff 1700 Managers, Add Part-timers

Lowe's Cos, the nation's No. 2 home-improvement chain, is laying off about 1,700 middle managers nationwide and adding thousands of hourly, part-time sales staff on weekends.

Spokeswoman Chris Ahearn said Tuesday that the company redefined hundreds of middle-management jobs and will eliminate those between assistant store manager and store manager on Saturday.

The company will start taking applications next week to fill the 8,000 to 10,000 new positions, to be spread evenly among Lowe's 1,725 stores. Ahearn said the changes will give the company the staff in needs to help its customers when they shop the most weekends.

About 20 percent of stores will not lose staff. Lowe's has about 238,000 employees, with four to six managers at each store.

Ahearn declined further comment, citing Lowe's upcoming earnings report.

Interesting news about lowes. I suspect a lot of stores could stand to learn something from them about excessive middle management.
