Need New Windows, for the House

I stuck with vinyl for $179/window installed using Window World installed at my rental here in Raleigh area. And then paid the extra $50 each to have them wrapped in aluminum. Total was close to $1,900 with half up front. I signed a waiver that no HOA and omitted the grids and saved big $. Grids are SO overrated...
If I had the time I would have installed them myself but I have absolutely no time. Plus I would have had to buy a $800 brake to use once and re-sell it. I was pleased with WW though.
For the savings to go with vinyl, I just can't see why someone would pay so much for anything else? If say 20 year guarentee, then I can replace mine every 5 years and still be ahead. Mine has a 5 year warrentee as it stands without paying extra so hopefully the flaws work out in the next 4 years of sun / wind and rain.

Funny, this site has window ads at the top AND bottom right now.

My roof is next but that I will have to make time for there's no deals to be had for that.

Thanks for all the info, so far! My house is brick. I Do see the difference between the way standard vinyl windows are constructed, versus Anderson's composite. I just looked at a new $200K+ house, under construction.
Vinyl double pane, double hung, windows, by some un-know company, to me. They Look cheap, built like the cheap one's, & are loose, in their tracks. I'm not buying that crap! Once I get past this weekend, I hope to have a few minutes, to start looking at my options, & contacting other companies.
