A coworker (her husband), is selling a '01 Nissan Frontier. All she knows is the motor is new and has 100 miles on it. They put oversized tires on it and removed the front bumper due to rub. :shaking:

Smaller tires and bumper back on would be the first thing I'd do. And they have the bumper. Also comes with a camper Shell.

I already got her down to $3500 from her initial $4500 asking price.

I'll see if I can find out what year, but What's the 411 on these trucks? I'm thinking my 16 y/o would love this truck for driving to school and puts around around town. No Off road activity.

No idea. Looks like a sweet truck for a kid.

I've always had a hard time believing any body when they say there as been major motor work done. But, that's just me. Wish I had more to offer.

my dad had a the previous body style. it was a great little truck.

nissan makes a good vehicle in general.

Under-powered for a new driver is a plus in my book.

as for major engine work, ya, but from what I gather, her husband buys used vehicles, fixes them up and sells them. So I'm guessing the original motor was blown. It's SUPPOSE to be a NEW motor. I haven't laid eyes on it yet. Just wondering if these little trucks are even worth bothering with. sounds like it's worth checking out.

thanks

Checked it out, kicked the tires. Not a new motor, so hopefully he has some info on the motor that he installed. It's a V6 and fired right up and looks good. Clean install, no loose wiring or bullshit.

Make sure that year doesnt have the tranny cooler issue like the newer ones do. The problem is the epoxy goes bad at the radiator fitting and coolant gets into the tranny and of course wipes it out. Nissan finally admitted to the problem, but their recourse for it is a joke.

I've been looking to get a truck like that for a work truck. Extra cab though.

I know more about toyotas but not much on nissans.

How do the frontiers do as a work truck? Prob only haul 500 lbs consistently, drive about 50-100 miles daily, hilly terrain.

My 03 xterra was a turd. It is the slowest vehicle i have ever owned.
I took it to nissan a few times thinking something had to be wrong but they gave it the clear.

Great thing for a kid lol.
It was a very reliable truck though , got 17 mpg around town. I only did basic services and timing kit/water pump. In the 110k I owned it.

We had a Pathfinder that was the same way, my wife had it when we got married. It was sooooooooooooooo slooooooooooow. We used to joke that the AC was nitrous because when you merged on the highway you had to turn it off and it would give it a little extra kick of power to keep people from running over you.

These are solid, reliable trucks. They don't have the following that Toyotas have due to the inherent difficulty and expense in lifting them. The VG engine is solid and reliable. If someone blew one up it is because they did not maintain it properly. They have fairly low compression (8.9), are non-interference, but do have timing belts that require changes at 105k. The distributors routinely blow the upper bearing in the mid 100ks but that is a fairly cheap and easy fix. Drivetrain is solid, manual or automatic. The only abnormal wear item is the center link for the steering, the solid pivot gets sloppy when large tires are put on them. I beat the crap out of mine for years with IFS (okay, I still do with a SAS) and it always came back for more.

Parts are fairly inexpensive and readily available as they shared a large portion of engine and drivetrain components with the 2000-2004 Xterras and 1996-2004 Pathfinders, and even quite a few drivetrain parts with the older Hardbody trucks. Fuel mileage is not a strong suit as mentioned above at 170Hp and 200 ft-lb torque they are fairly slow but get the job done.

I love the 2001 because it was the refresh year with the slightly updated interior. I hated the 2002-2004 interior and dash design. Mine is a 2001. This was the last year that Nissan used Durasteel for the body and bed stampings so they resist rusting even when the paint is scratched to the metal.

No idea what they are worth nowadays but it would be a good solid vehicle for a younger person to drive, just not very frugal due to fuel mileage.
