Hey guys seems I've got an issue on my hands. Looking for some advice and maybe vent a little.

I sold a guy (not a member here) a Cherokee he calls me about 5 days latter raising cain. Says I sold him junk that it needs new rod and cam bearings. He had test drove the truck. I made it known I hadn't driven it much before he purchased it. Here's where it gets sticky. I bought the Cherokee with an open SC title. He has sent off for new title and has received license plate for vehicle. (After speaking with DMV) this means no issues were found with previous title and with the vin number. Now he wants his money back claiming vehicle needs new engine. And is claiming I forced signature on a damage disclaimer.

I'm lost at what to do and am completely tore up about it. N

if i remember correctly all private vehicle transfers are "as-is" unless other wise indicated. not sure there is much he can do. sympathize with his bad luck and dont worry too much.

66bangbronc can probably give you better advice.

Thanks guys. I genuinly feel bad about the situation. I try my best to be upfront with people and honestly have never had issues like this before. Its rough though him calling me at work and having to deal with threat of some form of leagal action

Guess i got to break it to him tomorow that I wont be helping with the situation, had he called the night he bought it with a problem or had been more civil when he did call I would agree to assist some how. But not after threating me right off the bat

if you were upfront with everything you knew about the truck what else could you do? I really dont even think a carlot would do anything after five days either, somtimes bad things happen to bad people!! as long as you feel you done your part then let it go man this aint preschool!!!

Wether you were upfront about everything you knew or not, like Blaze said, buyer beware.

5 days he could've driven somewhere that he needed to go, then drained the oil and ran it then called you saying the motor was bad.

Sympathize with him and tell him you didn't know of any issues, but the sale was final.

Sucks buying used sometimes. But I had a similar issue with a car I bought off this board. I knew I was taking a chance on $1000 car. It lasted about 4 weeks and was in the shop for $400 worth of work in that time and then the motor died. It just sucks sometimes.

I would call him back, if he is already threatening you don't want him showing up AT your work and creating a scene.

Seriously, when I buy a car and something goes wrong I just take it that I did not check it out well enough.

I did a trade with a guy once and he still owed me a little money, he called saying he didn't want to pay me because the car I traded him had some issues. Stupid of me, but I was young and dumb. I responded that the car he traded me has some issues too, and unless he wanted to go to small claims court over it he would pay me what he owned me since we had a signed notarized agreement. He bitched a little but I got my money. The car he traded me was not nearly what he advertized but that was my fault for not checking it out, and the car I traded him was way nicer than what he was saying, he just didn't want to pay me.

you have the vin number to his vehicle. a carfax report will tell you his name once a title is assigned. or if a plate has been issued a police officer can assist you in obtaining his name.

Going to run this reply by yall, see if I have my bases covered:
I will not be able to help you out with the jeep. I presented the vehicle to the best of my knowledge and after a test drive you agrred to purchase. In NC all privete party sales are as is with no implied guarantees. I am sorry that an issue arose with the jeep. Any further attemots to contact me will be considered harassment.

"AND NO MORE PHONE CALLS. THIS CASE IS CLOSED. IF YOU CALL ME AGAIN I WILL SEEK A WARRANT FOR YOUR ARREST FOR HARRASSING PHONE CALLS UNDER NCGS 14-196."

^^ winner

Seriously you shouldn't lose sleep over it, if you did indeed tell him everything you knew, that's all you can do.
And if he's threatening legal action (which will go nowhere at all), I'd respond that your boss is threatening to sue him for wasting your time at work and harassing his employees.
Calling somebody at work is just unprofessional.

My brother had a Isuzu NPR he used for landscaping. Well he wanted to move on to bigger better things so he packed it up and moved to kure beach from Winston Salem. Did this trip twice moving stuff in the NPR. He sold it after the move and told the guy all about it, had used it for two years around the triad mowing, and then twice to Wilmington for the move. It was a fair price. Guy calls a month later leaving threatening voicemails, saying he sold him a lemon cause he had been in the shop 4 times for serpentine belt noise and now he's been told it needs front and rear brakes. My brother didn't respond and after a while the guy was saying he was taking him to court and all this stuff. Nothing came of it. But he still has the voice mails on tape. They are pretty comical, hearing a older guy yelling done pretty vulgar names in to a phone.

I traded a boat one time to a guy for a ATV in January he never looked at the boat never started it etc just hooked up and towed it away. then about 2 months later I get a call from a guy in GA that the guy sold it to raising hell with me says that I owe him a engine because I did not winterize the boat which I did and he is a lawyer and I don't want to mess with him. He says he is comming to my house and I owe him money or I can buy the boat back. The guy that sold it to him played it off that he was me and never had the boat in his name I just told the guy that if he was a lawyer he should know that there is no warrenty and its as is where is and if he wants to go after someone its not me but the guy he got it from. I then get calls from the other guy it was all a mess but blew over. I know how you feel but there is nothing you can do its on him not you 5 weeks is a long time and a lot that could have been done in that time

Now that is about ridiculous!
