Needing 3 rooms that have popcorn ceilings scrapped and painted.

Also need the living room put into drywall, its paneling now and mommma wants it drywalled.

Would love to support someone on here....

Have you considered painting the paneling? We did that in our old house, and it turned out great. Might be cheaper than drywall, and has a nice look to it.

I did but for the wife its not an option... Lol there is no flooring down now so it is the time to do it!

Might want to check the thickness of the existing wall. Is there drywall behind the paneling? If you tear out the paneling and go back with drywall, you might have to get new doors and will have to retrim all of the windows. 3/8" difference in thickness between sheetrock and paneling.

we took out a wall between our living room and kitchen. Kitchen has painted paneling but living room was sheet rock. I used 1/4 sheet rock on kitchen side on header and on wall were it ties it ties into the old paneling.little sheet rock mud and really can't tell the difference between were the sheet rock stops and paneling starts.

This, the difference in thickness will cause a PITA for every fixture, just be sure to consider this in the labor cost.

Re: ceilings, is it that the wife hates the popcorn, or that in needs some kind of touch up w/ painting?
This is not a simple job, and getting ALL of it off so it's nice and smooth brings the suck.

Something to consider - re-tsexturize it yourself, you can get a special roller to roll it on. While it's wet, take a broom and stick it up in it and switl it around. You can make cool designs this way that hide imperfections really well - and women dig the DIY decorated look and have fun doing it.
This is way easier than doing teh finish work to get a ceiling nice and smooth :D

And that's what led me to paint the paneling in our house. I wasn't up for the work to reframe all the doors.

If you need a hand with the work, I'm no contractor, but I'll give you a hand with the popcorn ceilings....wait, have they been painted? If they have not been painted it's a WHOLE lot easier. Just messy. Spray it with water and scrape away. Then some light sanding. If it's been painted, then it's scape spray scrape spray scrape spray until you get it smooth enough to sand and paint.

Or maybe I'd suggest decorative tiles if you can find some you like and go with your style.

But if you need a hand with the ceilings, give me shout. But not for drywall, I suck at drywall.

All but 3 rooms have been stripped and most have been primed. She hates popcorn on the ceilings so makes me happy if it makes her happy....

May hit you up!! I have a few leads out on the whole ceiling issue, some things you just pay other people to do and this may be one of them.

Try a small spot before you pay somebody. I took my floor scraper and hit the corners with a flap disk to round them a little bit to keep them from gouging. 1 gallon pump sprayer with hot water. Spray about an 8'x8' area then hit it with the floor scraper. My bedroom took about 30 minutes. It came off in sheets like hot butter. The hall bath had been painted and was a PITA.

My dad has been a contractor for over 30 years, if you have any questions I could ask him, he might have an answer for ya.

Very True!

But if you want/need to save a buck here or there, you've got my number. Feel free to stop by and take a look at some of my ceilings I did. You can see the end result and if it something you'd like. I'm just a home DIY guy, not a pro and I don't offer refunds. :D

You don't have to reframe anything. Just add a piece of 3/8 S4S all the way around the casing and reinstall the original face trim.

Popcorn is no big deal for a plasterer, but might be cheaper to let the drywall guy hang and finish new board rather than scrape the old.

Ok we got one ceiling scraped today, drywall guy comes tuesday to hang drywall in the living room and finish the ceilings and touch up the rest of the spots in the house.
