I picked a 6.0/4l80e combo w/approx 75k miles in a package deal and just curious as to what I have and if it's a good candidate to swap in the wife's 57 bel-air. I've read through the LS sticky but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. The head casting # is 823 and the block # is 12576181. Thanks in advance.

Yes. If your not going to build it to much it will last forever. If I'm not mistaken any of the ls based blocks have interchangeable parts depending on the years for the cams

It is a great candidate for swapping into vintage cars for a nice resto/mod.

What info are you seeking? Many of us have done the swaps into many different types of vehicles.

I've done a few LS swaps and currently doing a 5.3 lm7 swap in a YJ with a 40 yo ford np435 manual behind it. There's millions of directions you can go with this build and I can tell you from experience it's easier if you have the harness and computer from the donor vehicle. Once you start switching over from dbw to DBC or start switching fuel rails and injectors, it can get confusing. The 6.0/4l80e combo is awesome to say the least. I did a 6.0/4l80/205 swap into a 1 ton Tj buggy and the power/driveability was top notch.

@Croatan_Kid is the man to ask about the technical and performance stuff. He's helped me tremendously.

Thanks for all the replies. I was supposed to get the computer and harness as well but unfortunately it got scrapped after the engine/trans were pulled. Any direction as to where to purchase, preferably a cut down harness and computer? Also, I wasn't able to come up with any info on the casting #'s from the head or block and wasn't sure if one later model truck 6.0 was better/more desirable than another. I'm just weighing my options on whether to use this setup in her car or go with a hopped up small block I picked up from tacomacrawlin99 a couple years ago and maybe a 4-spd. We had a 56 chevy with a Muncie in the shop today and after running around in it for a while I enjoyed the feel of days gone bye. If I go that route instead I plan to stick the 6.0 in a 96 sas chevy I've got sitting out here and just putting the 4l80 up for now.

823 heads on a 6.0 with a 4L80E is an LY6. 2007-2009 (I think) in 2500HD trucks and vans. Strong bottom ends, awesome heads, best bang for your buck for a stock.

Google will come up with a crap ton of hits for 823 heads. They're LS3/L92 heads and very desireable. A search of the block number also found it to be an LY6.

Thanks man. I searched bing some last night, obviously I didn't search enough. Thanks for the info.

If you are keeping a close watch on budget, scour Pirate or LS1Tech for a harness and ECM. Most factory ones can be had cheap by the car guys swapping out to performance stuff.

I ended up finding an already modified harness for $150 and a Jim's Performance flashed ECM for $80. :)

I don't think he makes them, but I know he will modify them.

have you read the GM performance handbook regarding this? Its specifically written as a swap manual. Lots of good info for the new guy. This was the first link I came across, don't know anything about the host site. But its easy to find online in .pdf format.
