While I was trying to remove a broken exhaust stud I got a little impatient and broke the extractor off in the stud. Anyone one have any ideas on removing the stud now?

first, try using a center punch to shatter the remains of the extractor(it's very hard and brittle), if this doesn't work, remove the manifold, center drill with a smaller size, use another extractor from the backside if possible, sometimes heating it up will un-seize the threads, if not, then slowly work up in size to remove everything but the threads, then clean up the threads with a tap, if it still doesn't work, drill to size and use a long bolt from the back side of the flange-WARNING-the broken extractor is harder than any drill bit you own and will trash it

Thanks I will try the center punch today and see if I can shatter it. The stud is broken off in the head not on a manifold trying not to remove it unless I have to.

<hush hush -- trade secret>apply kimbell midwast "torq cb"($10-15 per can.. you will never use PB Blaster or WD40 again.. its that good).. let soak 5-10 min.. take a washer/nut of appropriate diameter, hold it on the stud, apply welder, apply wrench while still hot.</trade secret>

Where do buy it?

That's the stuff.

Note: Torq CB II will not be available for shipment into the State of California after 12/31/10.
Of course if it is any good it will not be available in california.. everything causes cancer there lol.

Carquest in Columbus, NC carries it, but their price tag is ~$14 /can.. but its worth it. I use about a can or two a month and I work on some old/rusty stuff.
