I'm going to look at a 1984 Jeep Cherokee with a 2.8 V6 this weekend. He said that it was his daily driver and it had an oil leak. The owner said he was driving it to work and it started acting weird and cut off and him and a friend couldn't get it to crank so they changed the oil in it and it started right up but has a knock now. What could be the problem? Other than that he said it needs a battery and wipers. It has a nice body and interior and everything works and he's asking $500 OBO for it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

I would look for one with a 4.0 . If it cost you $200 more it would be well worth it. I would avoid the V6 at all cost.

M guess is that the oil leaked out because of the leak, lol. It cut off from a low oil pressure switch. Added oil, switch let the engine fire. Oil added too late and spun a rod bearing.
There are a million opinions about the chevy 2.8. Some good, some bad. IMHO, you would be pissing away $ unless you know where you can get a good, used 60 deg v6 for cheap.

I have never heard anything good aout the 2.8

I would think so, but I am not certain.
