I have missed a chance to shoot a few dear this year because I can see the deer ok with my eyes then when I look through the scope you cant make out a thing. This is right before day light and right as the sun is going down. I have used other guns in the past and the scope seemed to gather light so you could see better through the scope well mine is worse then looking with your eye. I dont have thousands to spend but need one that will work like I need it too any ideas.

Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x50mm. I wouldn't get anything less than a 50mm objective lens.
I've always heard spend all the money on the scope.

With my scope I can't see a thing with my eyes but when i look through the scope i can still make out the deer

hope this helps

50mm definitely.
I've been a die hard Leopold fan for the last decade, that said my dad bought a new gun this summer and put a Zeiss on it, and it is a step above the Leopold which is 5 steps ahead of the Tasco(s) and Simmons I shot in the past.

Neither are thousands but both will set you back 4-500 depending on which model and where you buy.

Good bang for the buck, no pun intended, is the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40. Very clear glass and it is around $130-180 depending on where you go. I know Duncans in Wilkesboro had it on sale for $120ish a week or so ago. The Buckmaster is another good option just a little more expensive. If it were me, under $400 either a Nikon or Leupold would be atop my rifle. If price was no option...Swarovski

Thanks for the help don't want to spend a lot but want something that will work for my needs

Vortex Diamondback 3-9x 40mm. Has great reviews and Midway has them for $190 right now.

Honestly, everyones eyesight is a little different, I highly reccomend looking through scope that belong to friends and family members to get an idea what suits you. Personally I wouldn't trade my Bausch and Lomb for anythign out there, my brother swears by Leopould glass and my ex wife was a diehard Zeiss girl. I'm honestly not the biggest fan of the Leopould that my brother uses, but it may be just right for you.

I've been a Leupold fan as long as I could shoot. And I always identified Leupold as a premier scope...until I saw them in Wal-Mart a few months back. Now you can pick up a 3x9 Leupold at wally world for under $180. I have yet to try one though. That said, if I were on a budget and wanted a trusted name, that's the route I would go.

i bought a 3.5-10x50mm millet a few years ago for my .243 and love it. i have a simmons 4-12x42 or something like that on my .30-06 and HATE it. the millet set me back about $200 at the time but when looking thru it and the leupolds, swavorskis, zeisses at the gun shop, i couldnt tell a difference. it is a great light gathering optic and i plan on buying another for my -06 this summer.

I have a 30-06 and most shots are at most 150 yards and am in the woods so need something that will gather more light then the one I have. Don't mind spending 300 or so but if I can find one cheaper im all for it

You want a 50mm scope.
The larger the ass end he more light it can gather.
Evry scope looks good in the sore if it doesnt run. The rubber meets the road the last 15 minutes before pitch black. I love it when I kill and people start coming towards y stand on the ATV because 1) they were already at the truck and 2)"It was so dark we figured you must have dropped your gun and was scared you shot yourself". That is when you know you have a good scope.

Yes Leupold makes a cheap scope now, the VX-IV is still the cats ass.

Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x50mm Objective is 309 at Bass Pro. I would honestly spend your money on a good scope. nothing makes as much difference as a good scope.

Leupold VX-IV 3-9x50. You will never have to buy another scope.

i shoot a nikon prostaff 3x9x50 best scope i have ever had i didnt like my leupold seemed like the cross hairs were really thick but its still a good scope i gave it to my dad he loves it.
