i have an 88 yj nuttered carterbbd 4.2 inline

just rebuilt the carb and got it timed right it finally doesnt shut off when i stop so now i can :driver: it.

my question is now when i take off or even when i sit at idle and stomp on the gas it will stall or lag before revving up it does it every time just wondering if the timing could be advanced to much or not enough (around 9 btdc at 1600rpm and around 1 btdc at 700(idle)) or if i need to adjust something in the carb to a diff setting i just went by the destructions that came with the rebuild kit.:stupid:

What carb are you running?

I'd say put some more timing in it. I'd start around 8* at idle. Don't forget to disconnect the vaccum advance when settin the timing. Chris.

I had a sidekick do the same thing. It ran and accelerated great but would stall at first when pressing gas,It was the fuel filter.Good luck.

i will try the timing thing and see what happens. it says to unhook the cec wire harness on the valve cover when you time it as well as the advance in the haynes manual. the only harness i can see has like six wires is this the right one?

also when i rebuilt the carb there were 2 different kinds of carb to manifold gaskets two of the gaskets had 4 square notches coming off of the intake holes and the other two only had 2 round ended notches coming off of the intake holes, any ideas as to which ones are supposed to be on there
