need trans advice

I have a turbo 350 in a 64 gmc 1 ton 205 case and a modified 355[425hpand400ftlbs] anyway i think i broke my trans sat. was getting on it hard and it acted like went to nuetral and then slammed back in gear. stopped and it would not pulloff had to pull it down in 1st gear to pull. shifted manually thru the gears and it worked. checked fluid was low put in approximately a quart. still not right when i put it in drive seems like its slipping but when i pull it into 1st its a noticable jerk like its engaging hard. anyone gotany ideas whats wrong or repairs i could do. thanks roy
 
Update. Messed with it a little more wednesday no drive or 2nd. Anyone have any ideas what's wrong? Might put my 4 speed back in it never let me down. Thanks roy

so it only has 1st gear or no 2nd gear in 'drive' position? either way it sounds like you broke something intrernal and it's time for a rebuild. that sounds like a lot of horsepower for a stock 350. you could rebuild it, upgrade to a th400 to better handle the power or go with the 4 speed. my opinion anyways.

what kind of 4 speed is it?
 
It has nothing when u put in 2nd or drive. The rotating assembly has been lightned an balanced.vortec heads with 2.02 and 1.60 valves.bowls blended and gaskets matched at intake an head.10to1 compression.msd ignition.750holley.stahl fenderwell hedderswith 13/4 primarys.2100stall converter.I don't know much about rebuilding a auto, maybe its time to learn. Might try to build it myself. Winter project maybe? Thanks roy
 
sorry i meant a lot of horsepower for a stock th350. sounds like a healthy 350 smallblock though
 
The trans broke the sprag whatever that is. The trans was built by a buddy of mine bout 8 years ago but it only has about 15000 miles probally half of it was hard. Don't know what I'm going to do yet. Go to sm465 or auto thanks roy

i dont know my buddy told me thats what probally broke when i get it out he will probally go thru it again.i will ask him about the hardened sprag. he has built a couple of 400 for me and i never had any trouble out of them. thanks roy
