Never been to Callalantee...

trails are much better. just make sure you are locked and have a winch.
 
Actualy the "trails" are quite similar. There are some high challenge areas that you would need lockers and possibly a winch but you can bypass those easily and do most of the trails in a fairly stock 4x4. I'm going the second weekend in January if you want to hook up.
 
I did almost all of uwharrie in 2wd with a locker in the rear. It was crazy dusty and mostly boring. Callalantee is much better.
 
I recommend you dont go it alone either. The trails are very poorly marked, and you WILL get lost.

I ended up stuck in the woods for over an hour last time I was there because we got confused at some intersection. We ended up on some logging roads somewhere, way outside the park I believe.
 
Hmmm...I'm not locked, and probably won't be for some time to come. I guess I'd want to go with someone that is familiar with the trails there.

JC, I'd mentioned going to Callalantee to a couple of people, so 2 or 3 of us may head up that way the 10th or 11th of January. I'll keep you posted if you're interested in some tagalongs. I'll PM you my info so we can get it lined up.

Take warm clothes, go with someone who knows how to find the good trails(they seem to hide from newcomers)And have some fun.:driver:
 
Does Callalantee close at all in the winter? Looking to head up there very soon!!

I'm in the same boat.

Lots to be done to two different rigs, and wrenching got pushed back to this coming weekend. I'm kind of in a pickle because it looks like this weekend will be the only available time to tackle all of the bigger projects.

JC, I'll still be hitting you up after this weekend. I'm fairly certain I'll be good to go by the end of January.
 
Wish I could give that date some thought, but I know better. I've got an idea that regardless of how much I plan for these mods and upgrades, Murphy will undoubtedly tag along and make things harder than they should be.
