New car shopping - What to get?

I hope the 06 is paid for. If not, you will really be upside down with the purchase of a new car. I prefer the $6-8k used market. I can usually get my money out of them, and not have a car payment.

Chevy Cobalt? Great gas mileage, 2 door, affordable, Don't know much about the durability of the car.

Honda Accord Coupe? Speaks for itself.

Mitsubishi Eclipse? New ones are SHARP. The 2.4 liter engine they made forever is a dependable engine. I can't speak on the 6 cyls.

Pontiac Solstice - Sharp car, cheap on gas. Hasn't been out long enough to determine durability.

Hyundai has came a long way with the quality/durability of their cars.

On the Slightly Used/New debate..... If it was a primary car (with the exception of gas guzzlers at the moment) that I intend to keep for a while - I'm all for a new car. I find value in the fact that it's not been abused in any way, and the factory warranty is a bonus. The depreciation on some mid size/compact sedans isn't bad. If you plan to keep it... depreciation will most likely not matter.

Welp, for who ever on here gives a :poop:, it's a done deal and I feel good about my purchase. 2006 Scion Tc RS 2.0 w/ 21,000 miles for $15,100. The numbers worked out for payment with a new one slightly out of range. Has one minor ding on driver's side but rest is pretty sharp.KBB is $17,200 so I stepped into a couple grand equity to go towards repairs after the 36,000 warrenty expires.:flipoff2:

looks nice, if i didnt have a baby i would go with something like that. 2 doors wouldnt work though! i bet they are fun to drive.

go with a Kia cant go wrong with a 10 year 100,000 warranty and nice looking cars too. I work on them and they have very little problems

Keep driving what you have, put $500 a month in the savings account for the next 5-6 years....Assuming you guys are lower 20s right now. If you do this and invest in SP500ish mutual fund:
At the end of those 5 years you should have 38k in that mutual fund. Leave it alone and...
Age 40 it is worth 132k
Age 50 it is worth 378k
Age 60 it is worth 900k
Age 67 it is worth 1.7 MILLION...
That is a 5 year car pmt x $500 a month OR you could be a millionaire when you retire... OR you could sell the car in year 5 for say 5k...

holy crap that is smart i never thought about that. i say :poop: on a car payment i pay cash or i walk just bought a nice ass 01 Passat1.8t with 92k for $4100 and now i can invest 500 a month in shintons idea instead of going out in the garage and throwing benjamins at my jeep
