New Cherokee...

I would drive it! Those features are pretty nice! Looks a little foreign but it beats other new SUVs out on the market. So it doesn't look like the cherokee from 20+ years ago. With the amount of highway time my 92 cherokee sees I wouldn't mind independent suspension and a quiet ride with a factory locker and some decent MPGs every now and then :)

It is practically a grand Cherokee now. I'm not a fan.

4cyl engine with 9 speed trans? that doesn't sound very off-road oriented, I'd be worried about driving anywhere other than a gravel road

It has a better crawl ratio than my cherokee jeep ax15/231/4.56 gears..... You can get the pentastar V6 too

I would give it a chance if they had considered making the frontend less ugly than everything else out there. But unfortunately, they succeed in making it more ugly and more "made in china" looking than any other vehicle i can remember. Which is odd considering how much I like the looks of the new Grand Cherokees.

I drove an SRT Grand Cherokee at an SRT event a while back. I loved it. I really like the Grand Cherokee looks. They really didn't research the people who own a Cherokee and would "maybe" be the market for the new one. I ask what is next IFS Wrangler...

I don't really see how it has a weight savings... unless they are talking about a 2wd version. Seems to me the 4wd IFS components would weigh about as much a straight axle. Our 4wd '12 Liberty weighs more than a JK and gets the same MPG's

KK= 4,290
JK= 3,892

Yeah I was wondering that too, looking at the 80s Toys for example, you still have the front differential and half shafts, + CVs, then of cours upper and lower control arms... hard to see how a solid axle would be more, especially since nowadays both would be coils, no giant leaf springs.

I'm sure this is all driven by the increased CAFE requirements... what a PITA.
Since the required MPGs are heavily biased by the footprint, they should just find some creative way that increases the footprint in a non-meaningful way (extra long bed that's easily changeable w/ a short bed...) to get around it :D

Yeh the dealership I work at should be getting one in the next couple of weeks. I think it's fugly same with the ram promaster too. They were suppose to be at dealerships already but had transmission issues with them.

I was on Jeep's website last month building one for the wife and the total package came out to like $45k :eek:. I happen to be a fan, but not at that price.....
