whats up. my name is brian i am new to 4x4. kind of. i been around 4x4 my whole life. well i finely got a rig and want to start doing trails. i live bout 1 1/2 hours from uwharrie i got stock lift and oversize tires a little bit 265/75/r15. i want to start my way from bottom to top. i want to go do a couple of trails get a lift to fit 33s do more trails then i should have the hang of it i can get another life to fit 35s. anybody want to give me any pointers. and i still cant find out whats shaking in my front end. hope lift takes care of it.

tire choice is the biggest thing. a good tire for the street/trail is an all terrain. or if you decide its more for offroading, get a good m/t. goodyear, bfg, and other name brands will do you well. make sure its a load range c tire for good flex.

lift kits depends on what your willing to spend. higher dollar brands not always are the best. mid range is good if your on a budget, and the really cheap stuff I would stay away from because of quality and the ride will probably suck.

but Imo first thing to do will be armoring the underbelly as good as you can, things sticking down below the axles will get the hell beat out of it, and a good thick belly pan will let you sleep better at night as well as rocker guards. heavy duty bumpers also qualify.

lockers are not required unless you want to go hardcore rockcrawling but if you were to that point you would know what to do already. a winch is something that is better to have then not.

what kind of rig do you have?

i got a 96 xj. 2 door 4x4 Chrysler rear and front end. its a 5 speed. 4.0ho runs good its very strong. all stock. i want to get a lunch box locker for $240.00 . the one that only locks under pressure.
