Got a new dog yesterday.

A neighbor of Leslie's had a pup, a "around"8 month old what appears to be a Newfoundland. He was attacked by two pit bull's. Leslie got one of them off of him, and the other lady got the other off of him, He is chewed up a bit, plenty of puncture wounds, Some swelling.
He got a bath yesterday thanks to my daughter and her friend. He was covered in dried blood, never been groomed, and just like I would have if attacked like that had messed himself pretty good. He has had a penicillin shot, another in a couple of days, wormed, and goes to see vet today.
He is I am guessing about 80 lbs now. lil thin I think. But working on this.
His name was Buddy, but will be calling him Zeus, since I have a friend who's name is buddy and a friend with a dog named Buddy too.
Very friendly, loving dog.

As far as the pits go, no one knows who they belong to. Animal control said to shot them if they come in the yard. I took Leslie a shot gun to make sure they didn't get Semi. Zeus was lucky, he could have been tore up a lot worse. The pits are known to have killed other animals in the neighborhood. Traps are set out also. Seems they work together as a team, the beginnings of a pack if you ask me. Nothing against the breed, but these dogs are worthless in my mind.
I will get some pics of Zeus today. stayed on the front porch last night, didn't make any messes!

Damn!
Congrats on the new friend.

I lhave no problems with PITS but IME if they have attacked more than once, there is no behaior correction at this point. Well there is 1 behavior correction and it looks like you have that under control ;)

I agree. I have been up and reading on this breed about all morning. They have awesome attributes, and are basically zero aggressive. This being a 75-80lb pup, probably tried to play with them. I have never even seen one up close, but reading about them, have learned a lot. Will be another Wal-mart greeter pretty much like Semi, but with even less aggression. She will actually bark at some people. Males will reach maturity in three years, get to around 120 to 140 pounds. Awesome swimmers, born babysitters, and a hardy work dog.

Newfies are awesome dogs, nice find. My dogs are like my kids, I'd probably not hesitate to shoot another dog that was attacking them.

ive seen some that are semi aggressive. you cant always go with what is written or etc.... but overall its a very nice breed and congrats on the new pup!

I would love to have a newfie...just wouldn't love the food bills! :)

Susan, from what I have read, they eat a lot as pups, but no more than a lab once grown. soooo, we'll see!

Something similar happened to a friend of mine. He has goats, and a pack of dogs killed three of them last summer. He said this was the second time these dogs had attacked his goats. Also, he knows who owns the dogs. He called animal control, who picked up the dogs and had them destroyed. They also lecied a hefty fine on the owner.

Mr. Zeus got his attention today. Shaved area of the wounds,(neck) cleaned them out, more antibiotics, pain pills, and so on. Another Shot tomorrow. and he should be ready to heal. I brushed another big bunch of puppy/winter coat off of him. He ended up weighing in at 60 pounds even. when rubbing you can feel his rib bones, he is getting all he wants to eat right now! From all the puncture wounds and bruising, He is one more lucky pup to be alive after such a viscous attack.

My dogs are my kids. Take care of him and he will take care of you... If the two pits come back for more, give them the silver bult. Good luck with him and :nopics:

MIlk Man, you don't know me, but believe me those on here that do, know that our animals are our kids here too. Pampered, would be better word. Just like a kid, had to get a "sitter" for him since heading towards the rock race tomorrow.
Pics will come once he has healed some.

He's feeling a lot better
