Hey,

someone mentioned to me that there's supposed to be a new lift law coming to NC. said it had already passed in Va and SC. something to the effect that a police officer had to be able to see through the window of the truck. and if it was lifted higher than that the lift had to be removed. anyone know more about this?

Thanks,
bigmac

wow! if there were any dwarf police than I guess a lowered s10 would be illegal.

Just cause Va passes a law, in NO way shape or form means NC will.
THANK GOD.
If we ever get THIS crap here, I'm gonna be more bitter than if they make us run front license plates.

(as an aside, that really is about the WORST thing I've ever seen to screw your residents)

Also I have no clue how they could pass it saying "the officer must be able to see"
What height officer?
Average height? Male or female?
What about from their car?
what if they are really tall and your window is to low?

doubtful. The current NC lift law states that a vehicle can not be lowered/lifted more than 6 inches from factory specs unless
the vehicle is used for occasional off road use......

does that someone have any documentation from NC or any other state?

or was the mentioning done during/after a night out drinking?

No matter, I'm registered in TN, if that doesn't work I'll re-register in Louisisana, if that doesn't work, I'll find another state to register it in......the benefits of active duty;)

Here's one of my favorites:

MISDEMEANOR RECKLESS DRIVING - OPERATING A VEHICLE NOT UNDER PROPER CONTROL OR WITH ADEQUATE/IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED BRAKES. $350

Seems to me that if you find yourself in this situation, it (a) probably was not intentional and (b) you've probably had enough punishment already with the yellow/brown pants.

DRIVING A COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE WITH A BLOOD ALCOHOL CONCENTRATION OF .04 OR MORE. $750

Now, the state defines "intoxicated" as 2x this much. How do they get off charging you for being so much below the legal limit?

Re: this bogus lift law - just take the doors off. As long as the floor sills aren't 5' off the ground, you're ok:huggy:

I haven't seen a big rig yet that you can see inside from the ground. The time I was pulled over in my lifted vehicle , the officer asked me to step out, just like they do with a big rig

it's similar to that in NC for CDL holders, too...just a different set of rules in some cases...

yea, this person was actually a customer who called the off-road shop I work at asking if I had any information on this "new" law. Cant remember exactly where he said he had heard about it. said that a guy he knew had a 10" lift on his truck and got pulled over and the officer told him he was going to have to take the lift off cause this new law was coming. so with such clear and matter-of-fact evidence I assumed i was just out of the loop, lol.

i would think with such a law there would have to be a set standard, ie the bottom of the window couldn't be more than X inches off the ground. seems pointless to me.

though I was done at Myrtle beach one weekend with a buddy in his chevy 2500. 9" lift and 37s at the time, cruising the strip and he decided to romp down on the go-pedal and smoke up the street (diesel). yea, the bicycle officer didn't like that at all, lol. kinda funny looking down at this officer yelling who could barely reach the window.

not like a new law would keep any of us from lifting our jeeps and trucks anyway.... who cares what they pass... i'm not lowering my jeep and i bet yall aint lowering your stuff either....

Especially with the "off-road use" exemption. I'm not sure why in the scheme of things, being able to see through the windows of our rigs is such a big deal. I'll take my doors off.

Load of Horse Sh*t.

But so we never have a problem with such law, please think about keeping your 4X4 road worthy.....

1. Keep your brakes roadworthy with oversized tires.
2. Adjust your headlights so you don't blind the person in front/oncoming of you.
3. Try to clean out some of the mud from your tires before getting on the road. I'd be kind of hot driving a clean new $30,000 family sedan through someones fresh mud trail, or worse, being caught behind them with mud flying off the 4X4.

Not bitching at all, just a reminder to be polite to others and you'll probably never see such a law in NC.

what doors? :)

damn read that link.
An open beer while driving $900

Glad they didnt catch me on the way home tonight, or last night or....

I should probably be quiet now.

Lesson I've learned...when they ask you to "step out" of your vehicle...they also sometimes watch to see if you undo a seatbelt when you get out (if you only have lap belts in a lifted truck they can't see that you have it on). Only reason I state this is I got busted for not having one on...so learn from my mistake. :shaking:
