Well only one of my 3 trucks is really modified but here is the low down on them:
1988 Silver Raider, bought in 2003 for $400. Wheeled it until Jan 2007 with 235s and then 31s. Has 255k on it, replaced the KM145 with a reman'd unit. Then the reman'd unit had the bearings go out in it, and then the gears twice. 2nd gears went out time I parked it (after driving it 2 months without 1st gear). Recently sold the rebuilt 2.6 (80k on the rebuild) to buy truck #3.
1988 Red Raider, bought in March 2007 to replace silver truck for $1,940.Put a 2" Body lift on it, and cranked the torsion bars 1" and a quarter. Running 34x9.5-15 Super Swamper TSLs and some Super Winch Manual Hubs. New 2.6 with 40k on it and a weber carb, 156k on the truck.
1988 Gold Montero, bought in October 2009 with money from sale of Silver Truck's engine for $300. Has the very rare "high altitude package" which includes stock 4.88 gears. Needs a windshield, carburetor and interior re-installed. Plan on putting the 4.88s in the Red truck, and putting the 4.62s from the red one in it. Then daily drive it because it only has 108k on it, with rebuilt engine and new head etc.
(all 3 trucks are 5spds with the off-road package LSD rear).
How much you done to your truck? The trucks are just as rugged as the Monteros are.
