I recently used a company to create some custom exhaust heat management products and was amazed at the outcome. In talking with their sales guy I learned they have done quite a bit with motorsports and OEMs but had no familiarity with the offroad world to speak of. (Outside of some work with Polaris on their UTVs)
In our industrial application we had diesel generator exhaust pipe running adjacent to a chilled water line. (I didnt design it that way, I just got tasked with solving the problem). IR gun showed exhaust pipe surface temp between 1300-1450F. with a 1" thick wrap/coating it was below 300F.
My mind immediately went to packaging exhaust and steering lines in tight buggies.
