I am looking to build a Soccer ball machine (think pitching machine) to "kick" soccer balls with some sort of consistancy. I need to find two motors that can power the wheels to launch the soccer ball. I need to be able to adjust the motors to diffrent speeds and I also need to be able to adjust the final speed. Can anyone point me in the right direction for this type of motor at a fair (think cheap, really cheap) price.
TIA
Dan

Yeah, I had found both of those sites, but I'm looking to get both of them for less than $100. That will most likely leave me to getting used motors. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction on what to look for to part them off of. Also, w/ speed control in mind, I need a motor to have a constant tourqe rating in all speed ranges.

This is what im trying to build if it helps out any: http://seattlesportsciences.com/default.htm

ok what size motors and voltage are u planing on running ?? ie(540,550,larger)??

if u just want to launch it 10-15ft a pair of 550 23Turn motors would be fine on 14.4V dc
or u could look in to electric scooter motors
possibly a pair of old caddy pwr window motors from the 90's they are cheap from a junk yard and like in the 740 range in size and 12v dc

what kind of power supply? (i know dc but voltages (7.2,12,14,4) also nicd, nimh, lipo,Lead acid, other?

i have a good working knowlege of electric motors and power supplys thx to 1/4 r/c toys :flipoff2:

Your going to save you self a lot of headache buy just making this thing AC. You can buy a ton of drop cord for the extra amount of money that you are going to put into it by just making it DC. I understand that most soccer field are along ways from a power source, but most all types of pitching machines for baseball and softball are corded. Just something to think about.

I would reevaluated why you need something like this. I know that it would be cool to build, but how and why is it going to be used in a soccer practice. Is it worth the money that you are going to spend? How can you accomplish the same things in a practice without one of these? I love building things as much as you do, but sometimes the costs just out weight the benefits.

well if u look on the ofna website and look up the original mfg its a offbrand electric scooter company i looked up the part numbers and they match a childs scooter listed for 140lbs and under they also have standard brush setup 180* around the comm
(means u reverse polarity it reverses with out hurting it ) the fans are in the bottom and draw the air upward in to the armiture/can

but i do agree with BigBody79 its gonna cost
i would just brake down and spend the money on tried and proven before u fall short or kill some one  but a cheaper one lol

Holy shit that thing is expensive.
Yep, why I want to build it.

And Nick, this would be perfect for set plays, training keepers, for volleys, etc, etc. The hardest part about training for soccer is getting the same ball everytime to work on weak points.

Here comes the dumb response. Why not just build some kind of bucket (seat for the ball) and attach to a skeet(aka clay targets) thrower. Save all the electrical jumbo for later.

get an old weedeater motor and put a good muffler on it!

Fractional HP motors are not goin going to handle the torque it is going to take to spit the ball out with any force. Your best bet would be to search EBAY for some 90vdc motors and controlers. But finding it all for less than 100 will be doubtful.
